What operating system are you using? win7 has some problems as its changed its protocols for IEEE1394 sometimes you have to change the firewire driver to a legacy one.

Supposed to have , I run a mini with Win7HomePremium64 on a laptop with CS4 with no problems, You need to use Matrox Mini software ver2 with CS4 ver4.2, in the release notes for ver 2 it states support for win7 Pro or Ultimate, but I’m running win7 HP with no problems.

Media Express 2 requires a 1920×1200 desktop to work, a fix to do other sizes is in the works for a while -
I use the HVR-MRC1 with other Sony cams, I don’t bother with tape unless I’m using a small cam like Sony’s HCx or Canon HVxx, I currently archive to Harddisk and bluray data data disk. I use 32gig compact flash cards with the recording unit, you can get over 140min per card, the cards are formated Fat32 but the included Sony software(PC) with download and stitch the file segments together, with a normal card reader you can download a 32gig card in about 30mins, there are faster card readers but can be expensive, but its only a 1/4 of what it takes to do a tape.
I’ve used the Z5 and Z7 on shoots but decided not to buy for myself as the MRC1 works with a FX1/Z1 either dual record or CF only and Sony is coming out with other tapeless cams like the NX and AX -
Sounds like something took a hit, it might be a dll that got corrupted, reinstall??

That’s why you monitor it, and make sure settings are correct, I’ve haven’t had a problem with a SD or SDWS yet. -
The NXcam has a bunch of settings, make sure you’ve setup ok.

You mean if you export to tape, if my machine is fast enough I can do a external device preview, I can copy to tape without rendering

Unless you have Elemental Streams Mpg files are usually muxed so you would have to either demux the files in premiere or another software before being able to seperate the A/V
