The rest of your specs like the harddrive space, etc, would help, something like Cineform’s NeoScene intermediate code may help more than just a quad core update, you could download a trial and see if it helps.

[Beth Hammer] “My project is not widescreen, I didn’t select widescreen”
Why then would you expect this as quoted from your OP “all I want to see is those black bars on either side”

You didn’t mention your computer specs and Operating System and what version of Ppro.
You should keep your OS, apps and project files on your C: drive, you should have a large fast disk or array dedicated to your video files(scratch disks), and maybe a third disk for preview files, media cache, audio files, still images, etc, and never let the drives get more than 80% full

If your project is Widescreen DV and the source and program monitors are set to fit and you drop a 4:3 DV clip into it, the source monitor should show the clip as a native 4:3, and the program monitor should show a 16:9 screen with a pillar boxed 4:3 image, and the preview monitor should show the same, WS with pillar-boxed 4:3, check the description of the clip in the project area next to the tiny project monitor, the pixel aspect should reflect a 4:3 setting if it is a WS pixel aspect you may have a 16:9 flag set on 4:3 footage giving you a horiz stretched image.

I’ve had problems with AVG with other programs, I don’t know about CS4 as I don’t have anti-virus active on any editing computer and don’t connect to the net with them, if possible any updates come through a computer configured for the net

Like I mentioned a dll may have been corrupted, they are library files which contain stuff like the file type tables, its always best to do a disk check when something like this happens as it could be a bad sector causing the problem.

Complaints have been made and noted, and supposedly a fix is in process, I currently use Intensity Pro and the Media Express that comes with the new Intensity software download(3.5.1) fits a 1650 screen, its only the ME v2 that has the problem.
