  • HD capture unavailable in Premiere CS4 – Windows 7 64 bits

Posted by Philippe Verdoni on February 21, 2010 at 3:09 pm

I have just moved from Windows 7 / 32 bits to 64 bits and reinstalled Premiere CS4. It turns out that the HD capture is no more available in the capture settings and that the only HD settings displayed by the project settings screen are the DVCPROHD – 1080i.
I cannot understand wether this situation is because Premiere CS4 cannot handle HDV projects under Win7 64 bits or because there is a lack of HD codec somewhere in my system.
Thank you in avaance for your assistance.

I had a similar problem with a different format that was missing, I simply ran the Adobe Update tool and after finishing updating the program everything was there for me.

Although I had installed the updates 4.1 and 4.2 without any improvement, I shall launch the Help/Update command and see what happens. Are you working with Windows 7 – 64 bits? Thank you.

The first time I went to capture HDV in Win 7 I couldn’t do it. I could capture DV over firwire no problem. I had to disable and re-enable the firewire port several times and that did the trick.

I think this thread helped me, or at least pointed me in the right direction:

As a matter of fact after I had disabled the firewire driver in the Control Panel/ System and reboot the computer, Windows has automatically reinstalled the Firewire driver as well as the Canon HV30 driver. Then my Canon camcorder went visible under the “Audio. .. games” section. However the HD option remains absent from the settings panel displayed by Premiere CS4 when you start a new project and the Export/Media options do not include any HD setting.

Did you possibly install this as a 30 Trial?

The Trial mode does not support HDV use.

You will need to activate it, or reinstall it making sure you do it with the serial.

It’s possible that you forgot to (or it didn’t work) deactivate the previous install on Win7 32bit and you have used up all your activations.

To correct that you will need to call the Adobe Support line and spend the next hour waiting before they ask you heaps of questions to verify your legal ownership.

I had not deactivated the 32 bits install. I shall reinstall Premiere. Thank you.

You might want to run CS4 Clean Script before reinstalling
