preview and source monitor image stretched
I have upgraded to a new machine, with plenty of ram and an upgraded video card and now have a video display instead of glitches….however, my ntsc video is stretched to wide screen. I have tried using the “interpret footage” and also scale to frame size. I have created new projects with different settings, and am now asking “what have I missed?” I had premiere pro 2.0, upgraded to CS4, the video is being captured from a DVCAM (not HD) and all I want to see is those black bars on either side of the source monitor with my subjects at normal height and weight. Any ideas?

If your project is Widescreen DV and the source and program monitors are set to fit and you drop a 4:3 DV clip into it, the source monitor should show the clip as a native 4:3, and the program monitor should show a 16:9 screen with a pillar boxed 4:3 image, and the preview monitor should show the same, WS with pillar-boxed 4:3, check the description of the clip in the project area next to the tiny project monitor, the pixel aspect should reflect a 4:3 setting if it is a WS pixel aspect you may have a 16:9 flag set on 4:3 footage giving you a horiz stretched image.

My project is not widescreen, I didn’t select widescreen. I did, however, wake up this morning thinking it may be my video card settings. The computer is new, and I think I set the video card at movie. I’m going to reset and see if that helps. I don’t have a flag on the settings. I’ll post when I reset the video card and see what happens.

Why then would you expect this as quoted from your OP “all I want to see is those black bars on either side” -
Wow Brian I’ve been working with Premiere Pro 2.0 for 5 years now, but guess I don’t have it down like you do. I’ve read many posts on here about aspect ratios and everyone keeps talking about the black bars that will appear on the sides of the video when it is not widescreen. However, I have adjusted my video card and am getting the correct aspect ratio in my program monitor, but still a stretched picture in my source monitor. I thought this venue was for help, rather than criticism.

I would suggest you are using a widescreen monitor and set the graphic card settings to a 4:3 rsolution and the entire monitor is stretching it all out.
When u say source do you mean the source panel? You will only see pillar bars when adding 4:3 clips in a 16:9 timeline.
