  • Capturing HDV with Sony HVR-Z5E on CS4

Posted by Christo Leone on February 12, 2010 at 2:19 pm

    Hia.

I’m trying to capture HDV footage from the Sony HVR-Z5E on Adobe Premire CS4. The camera is connected through the i-link to the computer.

In Premiere, if the capture settings are set to DV i can record and control the device. As soon as I change the settings to HDV, the device goes offline and preview is disabled. When I press play, the capera play’s but the preview doesnt show and i cant record.

I created a project with a sequence to match the capture settings on the camera.

Can anyone help me with getting this capturing to work? Would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

BTW. The camera is set to HDV mode, not auto and downconvert is OFF.

Try connecting the camera as hdv without a tape in record mode so it’s a live stream to ppro capture window.

Is it possible ur tape is dv and not hdv?

What operating system are you using? win7 has some problems as its changed its protocols for IEEE1394 sometimes you have to change the firewire driver to a legacy one.

Hi I think i had same problem with z7 PAL have you cheak in the camera that the down convert from HDV to DV is not swiched on it should be off. Are you talking about no picture in capture window? are you editing pehaps on a i7 proccesor? if so i know there are some issue with it i just view for now on camera.its a pain
also a WARNINIG to all reading with the new 6pin fire wire cables both camera and comuter must be off conect then re boot or you will blow ilink board on camera and will cry like me

Got it fixed in the end. Turn of the auto downconvert. I had to take it through a special HD capture card and set the device type to generic, not sony. Hope it helps.

    Hia.

This was 3 years ago so I honestly have no idea what I did to get it right.

Currently I’m working on CS6 and had a capturing problem recently. I just had to reset all my settings to make sure they are correct. I dont have a Z5 anymore so cant give advice on the specifics but these should help.

    Set your device output to:
    1080
    I link off
    aspect ratio 16:9
    AV->DV out: off

Generally speaking, if you recorded it on the camera and can play it back it should pick up on your desktop through premiere as long as the desktop can see the camera.

    Good luck.
