CS4 experience with win 7 vs Vista (64Bit OS versions)
Posted by Jake Williams on February 11, 2010 at 8:43 pmI am working with CS4 and just upgraded my quad-core PC from Vista 64 with 4GB of RAM to Win 7 with 8GB of RAM. I have noticed that performance with Win 7 and more RAM is noticeably slower than with Vista and less RAM: More playback lag and longer indexing/conforming times.
Does anyone have similar win7 compared to Vista experiences they would be willing to share?

February 12, 2010 at 4:54 pmThat’s a great point. Mine are on a raid array, speed tested at 310MBps. That might be helping me out.

February 12, 2010 at 5:59 pmI am running with external USB storage for my scratch drives while I wait for my caldigit RAID to arrive. I know the USB drive is a problem I am just surprised by the performance gap between the two OS’s under the same editing conditions.
Also have a matrox mxo2 mini for realtime preview running.

February 12, 2010 at 6:22 pmJake, I have several self built quadcore workstations with raid arrays that work very well with Vista 64 when using Premiere CS4. I have hesitated in upgrading to Windows 7. Let us know if you resolve the performance issue. Also, can you tell us how you have your Matrox Mini set up(capture and/or display) and how well it is working for you?

February 12, 2010 at 11:06 pm…are there drivers that are holdouts from 64 bit Vista?
I wonder if there is something in there that likes Vista (or is simply made for Vista) and doesn’t like W7?
The Matrox has Windows 7 drivers, correct?

Supposed to have , I run a mini with Win7HomePremium64 on a laptop with CS4 with no problems, You need to use Matrox Mini software ver2 with CS4 ver4.2, in the release notes for ver 2 it states support for win7 Pro or Ultimate, but I’m running win7 HP with no problems.
