June 23, 2005 at 3:46 am in reply to: Bevel a boolean?

You need to make the boolean editable or do a Current State to Object. Select the edges you want to bevel and use the bevel tool. Results are going to be varied depending on how the cuts go through the sphere. It’s really hard to get it to look good with some geometries…

Make the two splines one (Functions/Connect) then select the end points to join and Join Segments

can you post an example scene? I can use ‘many’ and it works with or without High Quality checked but maybe I am not using many enough.

  • Select the pieces and do a Functions/Connect

and (blindingly obvious but just in case) don’t forget to hide the originals

sure, make the loft editable (or do a Current State to Object) – in edges mode select the edge you want to follow – choose Structure/Edit Spline/Edge to Spline

This assumes v9. If you are working pre-9 there was a plugin to turn edges to splines (but I don’t remember which it was).

[duffbeer911] “I want to be able to change the vision without re-rendering the whole project,”

Sounds like you are going to want to compostite in post whether you do this as a render of the screen only with each vision change or do a render once and put the animations/pictures (visions) in with AE from the start, so probably AE

[alan lacey] “Given a closed spline on a surface can you remove the area enclosed leaving a hole?

Extrude the spline through the surface and use a Boolean – A without B

    More ways?…

May 22, 2005 at 7:11 pm in reply to: Import EPS to Extrude – How to ?

[Asaf Billet] “Well, it was just waaaaay offside. Didn’t figure out why.

I think it uses the origin point of the eps, which is the page origin of Illustrator/Freehand (or whatever) of the program that made the eps – try and get it close to the page origin (if you are making it or can ask) and it should arrive closer to the C4D world origin

One more thing – is it better to reduce the size of the EPS in C4D, or bring in a small file ?
    I mena, render-wise, does it make a different ?

I don’t think it makes a difference. Vectors are always scalable anywhere. Only the number of points, the spline type and intermediate points should make a rendering time difference.
