Cool, thanks for reporting the real problem. I found you could also fix it without the inner extrude by just reducing the Phong Angle in the Phong tag. It corrects itself at 8 degrees in my tests so anything below that works.

I don’t think you can avoid that with a point source light. You want a light with more area, maybe an area light, distant light or parallel light?

    Probably the Stick Texture tag

Can’t tell without seeing the image. Alpha shouldn’t change with changing segment number (well other than the shape change due to fewer segments).

  • don’t think it’s possible leaving it as a Sweep. With only 180 degrees of rotation the back is now lining up with the front and Sweep Nurbs has not lost track of that, so it has to whip them through each other to connect front to front and back to back (so to speak). It can be done if you make the spline right first then uncheck ‘Close Spline’ to leave a gap, make that editable and join it by hand using the Create Polygon or Bridge tools. Here’s an example

if you have Jenna with the DisplaceView deformer – I don’t know if that comes with the free version currently available – apply that to the object and do a ‘Current State to Object’ — just remember to take the texture off the new object or you get double deformation.

in the attribute manager for the video (in the material) go to the Animation tab and set the Timing to Range.

it will play the video as many loops as you want (dropping frames if necessary) inside that range so if you want it to run at the normal rate make sure the difference between the Range Start and the Range End is the same number of frames in the video.

It might be possible with a good enough understanding of the QT file format and a hex editor but it would likely take a lot more than 4 hours to learn it.

For what it’s worth (after the disaster) it’s safer to do long renders as still frames and assemble those into an anim after. Then if something happens – crash, power failure, whatever – you can only lose the last frame rendered.
