When you make a cone editable (and some other shapes like the cylinder) you get separate surfaces, with the cone it’s the bottom that’s separate from the cone part. If you do an Optimise on the cone first – select all the vertex points and right-click/Optimise – then it’s all one object and the sculpt should do what you expect

TopL drives the motion of 1, 1.5 and 2 but there is no animation of TopL (no keyframes) past frame ~1020 and the frame range you are showing us is 1100 to 1300 – it looks like it’s working fine before that and I can add keyframes after 1100 and get animation

if you have MoGraph, cloning the cars along a spline would be the easiest, a random effector would be able to give some randomness to the positions (and some Offset variation).

For the disappearing cars a mixed texture with a Linear 3D Gradient in the Transparency channel set to World space (or the 3D gradient in every cars transparency channel – how much work that is depends on how you are texturing the cars, how many different cars there are etc.)

displacement needs enough geometry to move around to look reasonable so you have to subdivide the mesh enough for it to work like you want

there are slight differences in memory handling in the versions but on slight (that I know of) upgrading is mostly just for features

  • if you click and hold on a layer icon in the OM the cursor turns into a paint brush and you can ‘paint’ the layer to other objects. (at least in 17, don’t know when that behaviour started).

by memory I meant physical memory (RAM) and that’s 6 (or maybe 8 for the moment, thanks) That’s ok but it’s not a lot if your scene has a lot of polys or a lot of objects and Lofts and Sweeps generate a bunch of geometry at render time. Remember the OS is taking a large chunk of the RAM, anything else you are running does as well. And of course opening another scene in C4D is taking some more too. I have 14 GB in my home and work machines and don’t run into memory problems (but may not be making complex enough scenes to really push it) – I’ve seen advice to put in 16 GB as a good start.

    What OS are you running?
    What version of C4D?
How much memory do you have installed?
Is not enough memory popping up in the viewport or while rendering (both?)?
Do you have Subdivision Surface objects inside other Subdivision Surface objects (or other generators inside generators creating huge amounts of geometry)?

the spring is a dynamic object with free rotating ends it can’t be stopped unless you limit things. A Slider connector is probably the easiest
