P2 doesn’t create REAL media. Its the import process in FCP that combines the P2 meta/xml stuff into qt media.

In the end, we want to edit in uncompressed anyways.”I don’t think it’s very intensive. Heck, it can decompress it, add the TC reader, then recompress it in real time to send it out as you’re doing. But just copying the file to another file would take 20 minutes or so. AND you do have to compress it to one single DVCProHD file either to export via compressor or to export a reference movie. A reference movie can only reference video files on the drive. Not real time effects.
I’ve found that exporting a reference movie, THEN opening compressor is much quicker. Or the same goes with iDVD, DVDSP, or Toast.

I’ve run at least 3. The ATA 66 is fine, but check on the maximum drive size limits. Might be 128, might be 180, might be 250. Don’t know. In my experience, the more drives you throw at it, the hotter it gets in there. It’ll hold 4, but you might shorten their lifespan.

What do you mean it “won’t” let you? Are you trying to drag the timeline from the right monitor to the left monitor and it just stops? I’ve got a 20″ acer and a 20″ Cinema running on a quad 2.0 mac pro and it could care less where I put any of the FCP windows and/or what size I make them.
I simply picked up the timeline and moved it from my right monitor to my left, then dragged out the bottom right corner to make it go across both monitors. No magic. Can you not do that? What happens?

Make sure you’ve run the latest updates to Tiger, Quicktime, and FCP through Software Update. Sounds like a QT versioning compatibility issue. Somewhere between QT, FCP, and the OS.
You can also press ctrl+Q and choose NTSC DV to make sure all your settings are in order.

What DVCPro setting. From what I can see, there isn’t one. Unless you’re PAL.
Press ctrl+Q. Choose DV-NTSC. Where are you seeing a DVCPro setting?

Yeah. I’ve used them before. They’re square pixel and FCP will treat them as such. Just drop them in the timeline of any project and scale or crop to your likiing. You’ll have to render, so if you can get by with the slow refrresh while trying to work with them, go for it. Or you could nest them and render them in the nest to make them easier to work with.

If you’re using QT Pro you can do it right in quicktime with the sepia and film grain film scratches.
But even better, if you’ve got FCP on your system you can use plugins like Aged Film LE.
