I’m wondering what is the best capture setting for dvcpro footage being imported from a deck through a firewire connection. is dv or dvcpro a better preset to use? is it worth my time to customize the settings in either preset (i assume that it is but i would just be guessing)? after editing i plan to output back to a dvcpro tape. thanks for any and all input.

DV & DVCPro25 are the same thing. If you’re shooting regular DVCPro, just use the NTSC DV (or PAL DV, depending on where you are and what you’re shooting) preset. If you’re shooting DVCPro50 or DVCProHD, then use the appropriate easy setup.

If you are planning a DVC PRO out put to tape , its better to go with DVCPRO settings. DV settings is also fine, but if you dont ahve any space problem better go for DVC PRO

Both take up the same amount of space and are the same setting. DV-NTSC. There is a DVCPro PAL setting if you’re not NTSC. Otherwise, use DV-NTSC, whch covers all the DV25 formats – DVCam, DVCPro, and DV.

i noticed that the dvcpro setting seems to capture a smaller frame size-why is that and does it have any affect on the overall quality? also-thanks for all of the responses.

Unless you’ve accidentally altered your setups, the DVCPro setting should capture a frame that is 720×480, which is the standard frame size for all DV-based formats.

someone must’ve messed with it because its set been changed to something smaller like 640 x something (i’m not sitting at the machine right now). thanks for clearing that up-it seemed really odd that the sizes were different.

What DVCPro setting. From what I can see, there isn’t one. Unless you’re PAL.

Press ctrl+Q. Choose DV-NTSC. Where are you seeing a DVCPro setting?

i see it as a capture setting, not a sequence preset. sorry for the confusion.

[karenin] “i see it as a capture setting, not a sequence preset. sorry for the confusion.”

Go into the EASY SETUPS and choose it there. Then it makes it a capture setting AND a sequence preset. You should always go there first.
