I’ve never had this problem before where fcp won’t see my firewire device which is coming from dvx camera through lacie to my g4 laptop. i troubleshot a bit but can’t figure it out. i tried going direct from cam to laptop just to see if it would register but it does not. i hit continue then tried to capture. I can actually control playback of the the camera in the capture window and it shows timecode but no picture appears. any ideas? truly appreciate it…i recently upgraded to tiger. does that have anything to do?

This could be simple and it could be painfull. Some of us have fried our firewire busses and need to use a pci firewire card.
But…. a simple search of “lost firewire” turned up this more common set of scenarios:

    lost firewire.

    “everything is broken”

If it controls the device but just no video appears then the port is fine, if the camera or hard drive doesn’t even show up is system profiler then thats when you start to worry.

Try trashing your FCP preference files.

Make sure you’ve run the latest updates to Tiger, Quicktime, and FCP through Software Update. Sounds like a QT versioning compatibility issue. Somewhere between QT, FCP, and the OS.

You can also press ctrl+Q and choose NTSC DV to make sure all your settings are in order.

Perhaps it does. Go to the link below and see if this fixes things.
