    -20db is normal for video/audio.

    Music folks often like -14.

However -20 is most common. Just be consistent

This has happened to me. Often it’s a result of a damaged file at that point or some probleme with it.

One solution is to mark that spot in/out then render and make sure it’s green. When you export, click “Use Previews”.

If that doesn’t work, try re-importing the clip, or open the clip in a new sequence, render that and re-import.

Or import the Quicktime and export that as H264.

Finally, if you’re using NVIDIA GPU acceleration, change to software only.

Sometimes you just have to try different settings.

The easiest way to do it is make a new Adjustment layer over your clip (or duplicate your clip and add to that).

Then go to Video Effects/Obsolete/Opacity and add Opacity. In the Effect window you can keyframe the effect.

Since it’s an obsolete effect then likely it’s been updated and incorporated into Essential Graphics but I haven’t tried it.

August 15, 2021 at 9:58 pm in reply to: Reducing Frame Rate?

    Hi Emre

My suggestion is use Adobe Media Encoder and output the footage at 25fps. It should play correctly.

I suggest using Apple ProRes HQ which will play well in After Effects.

Instead of saying you want to “reduce the frame rate” rather what you’re doing is converting to another format that plays the same visual speed.

    Best of luck.

  • I think Premiere is more accurate than YouTube. However I only have limited experience with either this way. I usually create subs and captions myself.

My tests on Premiere showed it does caps as well as periods.

Premiere sends the audio to their AI, Sensei for processing, which supposedly helps accuracy.

Like any voice recognition program it has some trouble with idioms, name spellings. But so do the court reporters I work with.

I don’t expect any AI software to work perfectly, they’re not there yet and might not ever.

    But for free, it’s fantastic.

I use my HP Z800 on PP 15.4 (latest version) and it runs fine. IMO Xeon is a higher level processor than i7.

I constantly edit simple H264 videos without converting.

For general programs with titles/effects I usually transcode to ProRes, works fine.

Let me know if I can answer more specifics but you should be fine.

Just make sure to keep your OS updated as well as NVIDIA drivers, clean your cache between project or just as a general practice.

I run a separate SSD for cache only.

Also check out Facebook group Adobe Premiere Pro Editors, moderated by Kyle Koch, not the other ones. This is a group filled with pros like us and you’ll often get more and faster answers there.

The Beta version of PP does speech to text transcription. You should be able to output an SCC file (I haven’t tried yet).

However the accuracy is very good.

Just go to your CC account and select Beta apps. Everyone can use it now and it’s no extra charge.

It’s happened to me. I suggest first saving as a new filename.

Otherwise create a new project, copy everything into that, verify everything linked.

I think as good as it is, the locate and search functions get confused.

One reason might be resources as well as where you save files. For example my source files are on their own drive, Premiere on system drive and cache on its own drive.

If any of those is full that might affect things.

After big projects I clear my cache as Premiere will recreate what it needs if i delete something that belongs with it.

May 24, 2021 at 8:50 pm in reply to: Narrative Film Workflow – many audio tracks

    Hey Matt

I’m longtime Premiere editor. Actually went back to school to learn proper audio editing and cutting picture so audio works.

IRRC when using Multicam the resulting track will visibly only show the track you select, so your sequence will be fairly clean.

Your audio folks always want separate tracks for each actor, same for EFX, music, etc.

The only ones you have to set up differently are EFX and Music. Label each track clearly.

I normally do all my own audio but treat as if I’m sending to someone else. That helps me keep my tracks straight.

Also a bit more time setting up your session will save you headaches later on!

May 11, 2021 at 6:14 pm in reply to: Digitize VHS using FCPX

Both the others are right. Mini takes composite video. It’s in their specs.

Use that or Intensity but not both. That’s adding an unnecessary step.

Either will digitize and send to your computer via Thundeerbolt, HDMI, USB depending on which device you use and FCP input formats.
