Digital camera audio input levels?
Posted by Bob Mark on September 15, 2021 at 5:07 pmHi everybody. What recording level do you set for tone level on digital cameras for dialog? i have seen recommendations from -20db to -6 db Thanks

September 15, 2021 at 6:12 pm-20db is normal for video/audio.
Music folks often like -14.
However -20 is most common. Just be consistent

September 16, 2021 at 12:22 amI guess it depends somewhat on whether or not you’re using a good limiter. I use Sound Devices mixers. They all have pretty nice limiters. As such I might squink my level up to a little higher if I’m pretty safe with the idea that no one will be screaming. And this doesn’t mean Peaks at -20. With tone at -20, your peaks will be above that.
