AVI files are old school and huge. Do you need it specifically for some reason? Most of us use Avid DnX and Apple ProRes, with H264 for final viewing files.

Uncompressed files are virtually unplayable on most systems. Most of us use them for archival purposes.

Let me know what your client needs and I or others can help.

As is I don’t think you can export the way you want.

If Audio and Video are unlinked you’ll see a small icon showing how many frames out of sync.

If source material has a sync problem you’ll have to figure out yourself.

This is why I always use a slate/clapper board or simply clap my hands in front of the camera to have an absolute sync point.

Generally it’s good to have separate tracks for room tone. Anything with PFX [production effects, aka footsteps, door closing, whatever] should have it’s own track. You can never have too many these days!

That way when editing and doing your final mix you have the most flexibility and control.

I suggest reading John Purcell’s excellent book Dialogue Editing for Motion Pictures.

After many years film/video editing his book and a sound class I took really opened my eyes to the value of using many tracks in your work.

Also make every single edit have a fade in/out, a couple of frames or even milliseconds is enough until the mix. This prevents pops which may come up on different systems.

Any good scanner with slide/negative holders should do fine.

I don’t think you need uprez software as even an $80 Epson can scan at greater than 4K resolution.

Nikon even made some scanners years ago just for slides and negatives.

I would scan at double or more the resolution of your video project so you can enlarge, reposition or do moves on the images.

That is a common problem on analog vcrs like VHS, Betamax (not Betacam).

On some machines you could adjust tracking to stablize it or else use a Time Base Corrector.

However Warp Stablizer should help. You can do it in Premiere but After Effects has more controls.

Try and pick your region of interest as the time/date stamp. If that looks stable viewers will deal with it better than if you stabilize overall footage and the time/date jumps around.

You may be trying to use a proxy that’s not a derivative of your original format. In other words the proxy needs to match the same aspect ratio and I think audio configuration to work.

However you can create your own preset and use them. You might want to try that.

More details are helpful, like how much ram, drive size, type, etc.

I suspect you’re underpowered as set up. One alternative is create proxies as you seem to be in 6k which is a lot for a laptop to handle.

You don’t mention file codec, HD, 4K, etc. H264 files don’t play as well on some systems for example.

What drives, HD or SSD? That affects playback. Also try assigning your Cache to a separate SSD.

Clean the cache between projects

Set PP playback windows to 1/2, 1/4 resolution. That improves playback although not as sharp.

And remember audio files are tiny compared to video. I’d expect them to work better than video, esp with 64g ram

However system setup is the most important factor, then proxies if that isn’t sufficient.

I don’t know of any way to get that version since Adobe doesn’t offer it anymore. I believe it’s strictly installed through Creative Cloud, not from disc, so unless someone still has it and loaned to you then not possible. Also Adobe would check your subscription before authorizing that installation.

However you should be able to convert those files using one of several apps like VLC, Handbrake, etc.
