  • Reducing Frame Rate?

Posted by Emre Mutlu on August 15, 2021 at 8:52 pm

Hi there! I got 30 fps footages with sound and i want to use it with another footage which is 25 fps. I want to reduce 30fps to 25fps. Does it work? What’s the right way of doing it?

    Hi Emre

My suggestion is use Adobe Media Encoder and output the footage at 25fps. It should play correctly.

I suggest using Apple ProRes HQ which will play well in After Effects.

Instead of saying you want to “reduce the frame rate” rather what you’re doing is converting to another format that plays the same visual speed.

    Best of luck.

Just to add to Bret’s great tip, “conform” is the other word used in the industry.

Now, this is from experience so you might get an argument here/there 🙂

To get back on topic, AME has been the best thing since slide bread when dealing with Broadcast.

It used to be a struggle back in the day with 3:2 pulldown (old term) dealing with film to broadcast frame rate, Pal to NTSC, and vice versa.

Thanks to AME it just works plain and simple.
