Although i pretend to know a tremendous amount on the subject, this is new, so my totally educated WILD GUESS.
Seems FCP does not recognize the files to be valid.

Repair permissions, trash prefs, yadda, yadda etcetera. (and more goat blood)

I think i’ve already mailed you this.
(If memory serves well, you contacted me some time ago)

You cannot alter your timeline in an easy way.
If you can do it with a keyboard, my macro app. can do it for you automated.
Download it from my site, the free demo will serve you well.
If not, ask me for a serial and you’ll get one for free.
(It will be free in the near future anyways)

i’m not sure how the relation with drive works, but i do know a bit about Reconnecting.

    ASSUMING:
All your files are offline. If not, and you have relinked wrong, make them offline. (Do make a copy of your project)

    MORE ASSUMING:
You’ve COPIED the files to another disk, leaving file names and path names identical.

Then, select your clips, choose ReConnect, set a folder to start if you like, searching and press SEARCH.
DO NOT PRESS LOCATE! (that one is only if files are renamed, in that case, and if you have a lot, you are going to pay me, more on that later…)

If all is well, FCP will find a clip. Do have ‘Name and Reel’ selected. Select ‘connect others’ (or whatever, i’m behind a PC right now)

This way FCP should be able to locate all clips.
If your media is an identical copy of the first drive, FCP SHOULD NOT complain about non-matching TC or REEL. That can only happen if you try to reconnect to altered media. Warnings should not have to be a problem in some situations, but in your case, it’s BAD.

If you however have changed a lot of stuff, try my FcpReconnect app:

But in your case, if my assumptions are right, you should be able to fix it without this.

  • First, i have NO idea.
    Second, you are an ASSISTANT.
So get the editor and discuss things with him, or chances are big you get into trouble.
If you want to impress him, be my guest, (others will chime in to help you, i’m sure), but this is not going to be easy…

Then probably the deck is not accurate enough.
Manually wind to a few seconds before the inpoint and try again.

Yes, it sucks, yes you should get a HVR 1500 and control it over 422…

My advice, ingest entire reels and be done with it.
No babysitting, faster in the end.

No idea, are those BWF’s ?
If so, check out Andreas’ site (spherico), there are some ways of setting FCP how to interpret BWF.

And, are you the son of Klaas?
    (He taught me Avid…)

It IS possible, but you need my FCPauxTC reader, and you have to have a deck that can output LTC.

Ingest the entire tape, make sure the LTC is coming in on an audio track, and use the FCPauxTC reader to find all the breaks, and subclip for you.

    nope.
Grinner recommended Meridian codecs. Those can’t do HD.

and Animation at 100% is overkill. After you push it over 75% it becomes 422.
So if you use Animation for normal video, stick to 75% or your filesize will increase significant without any quality gain.

Also, watch out for gamma trouble. Give the Avid guy a test image.
Three vertical bars (black, mid grey and white) makes a simple test if you have gamma shifts or not.

What i don’t get is that the codecs don’t work on older OS’s.
    They should…
Perhaps find an older version of the codecs.

    Kevin,
I’m using the same as you, FW out of FCP into a Sony HVR 1500 (in SD though).
Output from there into a CC capable monitor, and it simply works.
(But again, the scc must be zero based)
