Another mistake.
The OTHER tool is free, this one is paid. And yes, to cut back on customer support, we NEED people to use / test the stuff before they buy it.
Saves HUGE on the support team, and makes everyone happy.
(No false promisess, you get what you pay for, nothing more (well, except karma and updates), nothing less.)Do test, do report back with objective findings!

Shane,
You’re pissing me off here.
Since you are TOP POSTER on the Apple lists, and thus seem to know everything, why not use the FREE demo, and test it yourself?
And yes, it works. But obviously i’m totally biased. So don’t take my word for it.
Do test yourself. It will take you less than 5 minutes to do a real life test on the subject, including the download of the free demo.
sheesh…

Maurice,
The LTC reader that is on my site right now is fairly accurate, but not locked to anything.I have developed another LTC reader that is way more accurate (as it compares samples on input to system time, and does a bit of math on the timing)
Of course there is always an option to use a hardware LTC reader and get the values over 422. (But i don’t think that will be needed, unless you want LTC at high speeds from a winding deck)Don’t hesitate to contact me for custom work.
(and yes, i do speak Dutch.)Dutch phone: 024-3553311

August 17, 2009 at 11:32 am in reply to: 3 SDI Stream Capture on 3x Xserve with AJA (Automation)Chris,
Capturing without FCP installed, on any hardware.
And it has network control.Have a look here:
https://www.videotoolshed.com/?page=products&pID=43For a start, just run the Recorder in stand-alone mode
Set your inputs and capture directory, and see if it works. If so, you can start toying with the network stuff.
I’m a bit unsure about embedded TC in the SDI stream.
If the capture card uses that and puts it in the QT stream, you’re home free. Otherwise, this app. can use system time, or i could write a routine to lock it to LTC input.Let me know if it works for you.

If someone could mail me the specs, i’ll be happy to create something that does this.
(and i’ll probably do it in less than a day)How hard can it be, it’s just TC and Reel info, available in EDL, XML and Batch lists that FCP can provide.
(and no, i don’t work for free)

I’ve made a QT capture tool that does just this.
(Synchronised remote start over a network, the computer that tells the recorders to go into play can be either Mac or Windows)
so the recorders don’t even have to have FCP installed. It should work with any device if the VDIG is present, but i’ve only tested it with FW.
What is your TC source?
I’ll find back the code and put it on my site, but not today anymore, as i’m closing the shop. (It’s sunday, i’ve earned my 8 hours of weekend)

I consider this issue solved with the use of this:
https://www.videotoolshed.com/?page=products&pID=41Relinking based on TC and Reel info only.

August 14, 2009 at 4:47 pm in reply to: FCP 7 Digital Delivery with Closed Captioning in HDNever mind, got it working.
For the archives, the timecode in the .SCC file is relative to the running length, not the timeline TC.
Thus, if your timeline starts at 01:00:00:00, and your first caption is after two seconds, that should be 00:00:02:00 in the .SCC file.Bouke

Andy,
You are right the workflow is a bit strange…Currently i’m working on an app. that will reconnect FCP projects based on TC and Reel info, not on Name (thus, more Avid style)
For that i’ve done some testing on XML.
Now strange as it might sound, reading XML is a hell…What i’ve come up with so far is to work from a Batch List.
Thus, you have to media manage to offline clips, export those clips as a batch list, and the reconnect application works from that. (And alters an XML if needed)I could use the same routine in the XDcam Extract application.
Will be slightly faster, but the amount of steps remain the same.On the other hand, the amount time the steps take are totally insignificant compared to the time gained.
If you want to toy with the Reconnect app, drop me a line.
