FCP & XDcam Transfer and Re-Linking workflow
I’ve pretty much ignored XDCam Transfer, but thought I’d give it another shot. My main concern is there doesn’t seem to be an elegant way to re-link a project if it comes up for revisions. Is there some way to re-transfer or make an xml of the clips you transfered so that you could automatically load them int he future if the project needs to be rebuilt?

No … the only obvious solution to reingesting partial FAM transfers after the fact is to revert to Log and Capture
That said, Bouke, from VideoToolshed, recently released a new product XDcam Extract that goes some way to providing a solution but it still falls short for this workflow as it requires you have a placeholder copy of the media for his app to reference … it would be better if it could simply work with a batch list or XML but there you’ll have to bug him to add that functionality. What you could do though, is Media Manage an OfflineRT archive of your finished projects which could then be used by his app to reference the correct media for retransfer from the source XDCAM media

You are right the workflow is a bit strange…Currently i’m working on an app. that will reconnect FCP projects based on TC and Reel info, not on Name (thus, more Avid style)
For that i’ve done some testing on XML.
Now strange as it might sound, reading XML is a hell…What i’ve come up with so far is to work from a Batch List.
Thus, you have to media manage to offline clips, export those clips as a batch list, and the reconnect application works from that. (And alters an XML if needed)I could use the same routine in the XDcam Extract application.
Will be slightly faster, but the amount of steps remain the same.On the other hand, the amount time the steps take are totally insignificant compared to the time gained.
