Put your monitor in HV delay and you should be able to see it.
Thus, if you have a clip with continous TC, use the tricks other people use to get it in your edited show.
(But i’m in PAL, never done it myself so i can’t help you there. Bur if you google it, i’m sure it’ll turn up.)Bouke

Kevin,
Could you please tell me how exactly did you get this working on DV?
I’m trying as well, but my attempts have failed.Bouke

Not sure, but you’re working with a long GOP codec, so you cannot just render to a codec like that without serious recompression.
I would suggest rendering to ProRes.Bouke

August 12, 2009 at 1:03 pm in reply to: Prores HQ export problem – beginning and end of each clipDoes FCP do this, or is it visible in the files you got?
In case of the latter, the post house screwed things up.
(Some color correctors can’t work frame accurate (Pogle comes to mind), or an EDL was shifted. If the TIFFs are fine, i have no idea…

If you want to have continuous VITC on edited clips, you have to wipe it in as done with CC info.
(thus, overlaying a continous TC stream you’ve once ingested and render)Now i have no idea how FCP does this, as normally the first lines are hdden from the end user.
But if it can be done with CC info, it should be the same routine with VITC as it occupies the same space.Bouke

As i don’t do much editing, mainly develop, i have been focussed on the small things.
First, my install does not work well. Have had no time yet to figure out why…But what i have found that is important.
You can now work with large projects. Using Option Shift while opening a project, only sequences needed are loaded.
(So i’m told, have not tried it myself!)Relinking still is filename based. I’m working on a tool to get around that so you can link or consolidate any material, based on TC and Tape name.
In that light:
Color now keeps Reel info on clips. That does not sound like a biggie, but it means that in a few days you can link any sequence to Color rendered clips.Closed Captioning support.
I have to dive into that as well, as my subtitler can output .SCC files that ‘should’ be compatible. (I have not tested it yet though, waiting for a compatible card to arrive.)
Acutally, it is not so much in FCP, hardware does the job.
(As expected, CPC holds a patent about generating CC info using a computer, this is a nice way around the patent)Bouke

Ah, i see.
Forget about the XDcam ingest tool on my site. That one is for disk based XDcam.
It is very well possible to automate your workflow, but i doubt it’ll be worth while (this would take me about two days to create something.)Another thing,
10 bits is overkill, as it is shot at 8 bits.
Also, Prores is probably more than enough. You could save some drive space there.
Or, you could just render ‘everything’ to ProRes overnight, and then do a file based conform using a tool i’m currently developing. (Contact me offlist to get a copy).
This will take some drive space for a short time, but once my app. is done you end up with a trimmed version. But again, i would ingest in Avid, then take the sequence to FCP either as a rendered QT (check the other thread for gamma issues)
and use the EDL to razor it. You could even use DNxHD in FCP, if you’re going to do a roundtrip trough Color, you can render to ProRes there.
or use Automatic duck to do the transfer of media.Bouke

so, what happens if you DO flag anamorphic?

The utils (there are more around) probably can save your butt.
Also, Andreas has written TONS about the subject.
Go to Spherico.com and check the docs, your answer must be there.(from memory, there is a setting in FCP that allows you to import at a different rate, but i forgot how…)
