How can we recreate a new continuous timecode on a clip without copying the clip to a tape ?
Hi, we are experiencing a problem.
We ingest a tape using final cut pro 6.0.6, with an aja kona lhe device.We edit the clip, removing some parts, exporting the final clip after the cuts. When we verify the clip with tektronics, we see that its timecode is the one present in the old clip, thus non-continuous cause of the cuts.
How can we recreate a new continuous timecode on a clip without copying the clip to a tape ?

how on earth is this possible!?
maybe you are exporting as a non-self contained quicktime movie?
but that would have the TC of the sequence…how can you remove parts of the clip, then export the CLIP?

what exactly is your process?
and what version of FCP are you using?as an attempt at an answer,
you can easily modify a clip’s TC in FCP.open it in the viewer,
then go to Modify Menu > Time Code.puzzled,

Probably it’s about VITC.
If you want to have continuous VITC on edited clips, you have to wipe it in as done with CC info.
(thus, overlaying a continous TC stream you’ve once ingested and render)Now i have no idea how FCP does this, as normally the first lines are hdden from the end user.
But if it can be done with CC info, it should be the same routine with VITC as it occupies the same space.Bouke

I am not sure how individual clip timecode is being exported but, have you tried Nesting the clips and audio in the edited sequence.
IF you select VIEW TIMECODE OVERLAYS under the VIEW POP-UP MENU in the Canvas you will see each clips Timecode. If you then nest all clips in that sequence you will see the Timecode change in the Canvas according to your Sequence Settings Start timecode.
Hopefully this will help with your export problem.

We are using final cut pro 6.0.6, mac os 10.5.8, g5.
We are just missing the correct continuous vitc timecode.
we get tape content via sdi connection to the aja kona lhe device, we insert the content in a sequence, we cut the clip, after we export the clip in imx format.

I think you are right, but it is not clear for me how to proceed practicaly…
Just a question: what is cc info and how may I act on that information?
If I undertand that, perhaps I may act on vitc …Thxs,

Your VITC lives in the same space where CC info lives (line 21).
Put your monitor in HV delay and you should be able to see it.
Thus, if you have a clip with continous TC, use the tricks other people use to get it in your edited show.
(But i’m in PAL, never done it myself so i can’t help you there. Bur if you google it, i’m sure it’ll turn up.)Bouke

Hi all, till now no solution.
We tried serbsky tool, compress all frames, nest clip … nothing changes , the vitc is incorrect or missing …..
