I’m having a problem with my sound drifting out of sync. I imported an audio file taken from a sound device to which the Aud Format is set at 24-Bit and the Aud rate at 48Khz. My video footage and timeline are set to the same settings.

Basically, when I sync the sound device audio to the video track, for about 2 minutes it stays in sync then slowly drifts until it is further out of sync.

I’ve tried changing the sequence setting to every possible Audio Rate and Audio Format. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

BTW, just for reference, my video rate is set to 23.98 fps. I imported this footage from the Sony EX1 camera. Also, when I drag the video file into my timeline, I erase the audio recorded by the camera and replace it with the audio recorded by the sound device. The audio from the camera is in sync but not the SD audio.

the sound devices website as a util for messing with audio files and changing the files sample rate. are you sure they didn’t record 48,048khz ?

the util doesn’t modify the sample data, just the rate stamped in the file to play it back at

The utils (there are more around) probably can save your butt.
Also, Andreas has written TONS about the subject.
Go to Spherico.com and check the docs, your answer must be there.

(from memory, there is a setting in FCP that allows you to import at a different rate, but i forgot how…)
