  • Reconnecting Old Timeline List With Re Captured Media

Posted by Mark Fanjoy on August 26, 2009 at 10:52 pm

I have re digitized original media from an old project (completed in an earlier version of FC). The timeline list reconnects to the new QT files fine. However, the previous project timeline only captured two channels of four four recorded channels of audio. So, when I re connect, the timeline information only brings in the original two edited channels. I need all four now.

Is there some way I can accomplish a re connect and all four channels appear in the timeline?

My only manual solution has been to bring the new media into a bin, manually set each edit’s in/out point, and drag & drop the new bin file over the old edit. This is killing me with time though!

I wish there was a way to drag and drop the new media file into the old edit and it translate the original in/out points, sort of like the “Fit To Fill” function. Asking too much of FCP?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

I think i’ve already mailed you this.
(If memory serves well, you contacted me some time ago)

You cannot alter your timeline in an easy way.
If you can do it with a keyboard, my macro app. can do it for you automated.
Download it from my site, the free demo will serve you well.
If not, ask me for a serial and you’ll get one for free.
(It will be free in the near future anyways)

Hi, Bouke. Actually, someone else out there is pulling their hair out too, I guess! No, this is the first time for me with this, but I very much appreciate your response. At least I know I am doing all I can do. I will try your keyboard macro and see if that helps.

Thank you for your generosity and best of luck!
