  • BUY SHAKE! With the price drop, you’ll be glad you did. Handles BIG rez quite well.

You’re better than the others who failed. You saved the project for the Exec. Prod. You’ve enabled him to finally realize his dream of getting the project finished at feature length. Finally, you’re not taking credit for writing or producing. Top editor credit should be a no-brainer. But I’d say that you’re due add’tl credit (not top line) for writing as well.

yup, it was the prefs. only thing in there that looked like it would have any effect was the path to 3rd party plugs (got a bunch of AFX plugs). it was darn annoying, esp. since it wasn’t that long ago I upgraded to an ATI x800XT vid card just for Motion.

Tnx for the thoughts Jim –

    >Are you running any other apps in the background?
Nope. I even used Activity Monitor & shut down everything non-essential.
    >Is there plenty of available space on your hard drive?
System drive has 70GB, project drive is a 1TB SCSI320W RAID, w/ 300GB free. [btw, I couldn’t find any settings for drive caching not related to Livetype, etc. Thinking of “normal” drive caching.]
    >Are you using 16-bit or float color?
    Nope.
    >Have you tried trashing the prefs?
    No – is the file user/lib/prefs/com.apple.motion.plist ?

Dunno about the forum title, but now at least the DP can “phone in” his performance as well….

  • Well, that was nasty! But finally got it. Trying for subtle was quite tedious. Needed 3 lights. Extremely critical positioning of lights, falloff, cone angle, material settings on black layer. Most annoying was the white that would appear instead of transmission color if the light cone went “off” the edges of the tranmission layer. Had to add a mask to the black reflection layer to remove. Obviously different input images would need to be treated differently. Almost easier to do it in 3D…..

I’d send them back an email stating that you have the highest confidence you can create exactly what they need, and can do so without cost overruns. Budget will be $749,550 (due to the current high cost of C-47s). If you get the gig, figure it out then. 😉

I’m sorry Simon, but I don’t know Applescript well enough to be able to find an appropriate reference to the “record function”. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

  • Hmmm… maybe I’ll make a little card I can put on the deck or IO that says “reboot FCP”… when I need to use either & move the card, it’ll remind me. Thanks for letting me know about the bus foop… always thought front/back were separate buses. Duh.
