Never mind – one of the few dangers of a 23″ display – I always open Help Center fullscreen… and with AFX, FCP, Motion, etc etc running, the system can’t play back 12-15 gif anims at the same time. shrunk window, they play fine. doh.

Good suggestion Jerry, but I beat you to the punch (this time) – already posted feedback with them. Do I remember a survey some time ago about desired improvements for FCP… where you rated a list of potential features? Time for that to resurface. 😉

Upstairs… that’s a bit easier than going to the edge of the world. To me, it would seem more logical if the nested clip retained it’s original in/out/duration, regardless of internal editing. A heriarchial edit dominance, if you will.

I dunno David, the indie trailer I’m editing for free – the producer assures me it’ll hit big at Sundance, and he’ll mention my name to the Warshowski Brothers for sure AND give me BIG back-end points. So I’ve got *that* going for me… I’d call that an assured payoff.

By “bump” I mean that it will hesitate while zooming. After the zoom has started. And any add-on handle won’t really help me, as I need it to work while handheld as well.
This is one MAJOR reason I’m looking at getting a JVC DV5000/5001 – for the better Fuji lens.

No, the problem I’m having with this XL1s is that in the middle of slow steady zooms, not trying to ramp up or down, it sometimes “bumps”. Not during a speed change. Unless I’m riding right at the hairy edge of a speed change step, and that’s the symptom… If I use the handle zoom set to slow it never bumps BUT that’s often too slow. And cannot ramp to/from zero.

No, does that give better results? Of course, doesn’t help me any when handheld, but I’m usually not going for an ultraslow smooth as butter zoom then.

Also ex-Avid (but FCP for 3 years); no, I like the viewers/timeline under the main menu. Because that’s where I’m looking/working most of the time. The fact that my primary monitor is a 23″ CD may affect my choice. Secondary monitor I use for bins & Tool Bench. The other 25% of the time I’ll use 1 of perhaps 6 other screen layouts I’ve customized. Same for Button Bar layouts. Keyboard layouts – only one – I can’t even remember everything I’ve programmed in that one! As for right/left (not primary – that’s always the 23″ CD), well, my right-hand monitor is a 17″ computer LCD, and the left-hand monitor is a 34″ Sony HD CRT, input from Mac via HDMI. Sort of leaning towards using the Sony HD CRT more as secondary display. But after all that’s said, manny times I won’t have either secondary used, simply work on the 23″CD. Usually if the project doesn’t have many source clips. Of course, that’s when iTunes is foreground on the 2nd….
