Thanks for the ideas, I’m kicking around what ya’ll have suggested.

    Lol, wise words indeed!

So there’s actually some method to my madness; what we have are live webcasts that need transcription post live for legal review. Legal prefers ‘cleaned up’ transcripts, so a bit of $ is spent on this. Legal may or may not have any edits, and sometimes it’s as simple as 1 sentence. Sometimes it’s a chainsaw. 😉 But since the transcription can also be caption files, I’ve thought it a waste to pay for transcription, make a few simple edits, then pay once more to caption the final program. Why not simply edit the captions along with the legal cuts?

But it needs to be a fairly simple process, or as much $ will be wasted in “post trauma”as re-doing the CC. FCPX of course answer that quite easily. PPro, with Andreas’ tool, hopefully can as well!

Interesting, Andreas. So if I read you correctly, the fundamental answer to my OP is ‘no’ – captions don’t ripple delete along with the rest of the timeline. But your tool allows ’round tripping’ to/from SRT and PPro titles. So a workaround almost as good as native, and if things go well, a few more sales for you. 🙂

Not exactly clear on your post Eric, but all I’m looking for is simply to be able to ripple edit a timeline, and have the captions (titles, with Andreas’ tool) ripple as well.

    Thanks for the info!

Right, Like I said, I’m a FCPX editor, so I’m familiar with it’s methods. Looking for the PPro capabilities re: caption ripple edits.

And there’s the rub. I do NOT want to go back to Windows if I can ever avoid it. At this point, I’m still willing to pay the “Apple tax” to stay on OSX.

Decades ago (ouch) I had a 3D graphics instructor (post grad for me, ouch again) that said to the class on the first day of class, “Rule Number 1 is Never Ever Watch a Render, go do something else! Do NOT sit and stare at the frames build.” Lived by that rule in all things render-y since. 😀

Never ran across those articles, so thanks Bob.

For anyone reading this, there is a utility called Macs Fan Control, and there is an option to select any of the sensor points and adjust thresholds & fan speed. It was evident from sensor readings that on my MP ’13 the GPU 2 sensor was much hotter than 1, so I just adjusted the threshold way down. If it’s heat related, that’ll fix that. 🙂

Wow, I was sure it’d be a drive problem! I’ve got a utility that overrides the internal fan speed control, I wonder if there’s a utility to change the thresholds (the one I’ve got is just manual constant speeds).

  • Meh, it’s a database. How impossible could it be to park on a Browser clip frame and ask “is this a source to anything in the timeline, regardless of compound level”?
