Motion dogging down to a crawl….. ?

Been using Motion for awhile, and fairly happy with the speed of creation. But my last project, which was fairly simple, caused Motion to progressively slow down to where the GUI was unusable. Like I’m talking about where simply changing from Timeline to Keyframe view would take as long as 2 or 3 minutes!! Just the generic Blue Curves generator and some text over top. Finally, after a reboot, the speed would bump back up for a bit…. but eventually bog down again. Ideas?
PS – switched to After Effects & ripping through the work….

(Oh yeah, no video output enabled, using an ATI x800XT card.)

Could be several things but sounds like a caching issue.
Are you running any other apps in the background?
Is there plenty of available space on your hard drive?
Are you using 16-bit or float color?
Have you tried trashing the prefs?

Nope. I even used Activity Monitor & shut down everything non-essential.

System drive has 70GB, project drive is a 1TB SCSI320W RAID, w/ 300GB free. [btw, I couldn’t find any settings for drive caching not related to Livetype, etc. Thinking of “normal” drive caching.]

Nope.

No – is the file user/lib/prefs/com.apple.motion.plist ?

That’s the file.

Could there be a corrupted font on your system?

Have you tried deleting Motion and reinstalling it? AppZapper is a great little shareware utilty for deleting apps and their attendant files: http://www.appzapper.com

yup, it was the prefs. only thing in there that looked like it would have any effect was the path to 3rd party plugs (got a bunch of AFX plugs). it was darn annoying, esp. since it wasn’t that long ago I upgraded to an ATI x800XT vid card just for Motion.
