February 24, 2006 at 4:28 am in reply to: What reality is the audio pitch effect based on??? and how it relates to speed?yES! thanx!
however
I actually did a search on the internet for pitch and speed and got the following info:
the FCP AUPITCH Plugin changes pitch in Cents, which are hundredths of a semitone, which is equal to 6%. So a 1% change in pitch is equal to 16.7 cents.
based on this i had a clip at 112%, which is equal to 12 x 16.7 or 200.4, and sure enough, a downpitch setting of 200 or -200 makes the voices sound correct!
I love the internet!

hey jeremy
I captured a clip 2 days ago through the kona lh dvcpro50, and all is well, it still has the tc from the tape associated w the clip
BUT
yesterday i captured an edl, gvg 4 channel v7 from dicreet edit, and i did not notice ubtil i had to recapture some stuff that the tc was gone, and i do mean media start and end. I know fer sure this is not some display quirk because i tried to recapture the clip from the tape it came from and even though the clip was supposed to start at 2:05:00:00 the deck rewound all the way to the head and i got an error message saying the tape could not cue
SOOOO I decided to recapture the clip manually,Opened Log and Capture, set an in and out captured clip, and once it was done cpatureing THIS clip had a zero start time, just likie the others
Is this some Kona LH wirdness? has anyone had this kind of problem before?
I hav no fire wire from my deck (beta sp 1800) soo i have no way to troubleshoot this problem
I need to recapture this stuff AND save the TC so I can RE REcapture it down the road for revisions
Thanx Again

Hi
My 2 cents…
I take my componenyt out, loop it to my color monitor, THEN loop to an IO LA, then my VTR (beta sp) I then take my BEta out back to my card. I use the s out and the composite out of the IO to feed dvd burners, vhs machines, and “home” monitors.THE io la is overkill for breaking out SD feeds, so we are looking at the Hotronic DA-All, its SDI In, and all 3 flavors of analog out Component, composite AND yc. Then i can use my LH Analog Component out to feed my SD/HD Monitor, Use the Hotronic componnet out to feed an SD monitor and our beta, and bring the beta in componennt (we use firewire to capture and play out HD)
You can find video patchbays, routers, and cables on ebay, as there are always compnays liquidating.
we have a device similar to the laird, called a One two punch. we use it to share our beta deck between 2 edit systems, It routes CAV, +4 audio and rs422 we have a 4 x 4 s router as well as a 6 x 4 composite and audio router, we also have some signals normal through a patch bay,
it is extensive, but it gives us lots of flexibility.hope this helps

February 13, 2006 at 11:00 pm in reply to: i can capture from beta to dv, why cant i edit from dv to beta?Yes its true, I was Overeacting. Giulty as charged (oh the shame of it all, the pain…)
Lets review
I have been using a IO LA for s video and composite output to feed a dvd burner, and of course when i has to gets a disc out the door IT DIES! so then i went to print to tape (edit to tape) SO i could make a disc off the beta that s when i had the, ahem, issue
yes Opertaor Error in that
I Had to have the sequence i wanted to ouput IN The Viewer, which i did not (silly me, i thought just having it be up front was enough…hahaha)BUT even then i still got an erro message telling me my timeline did not match my conifg, even though they were both 8 bit uncompressed. so i have no idea what that means, however tjis time when i said ok, it kept goint and let me edit to tape.
i will say it would be nice if there was a timecode read off the vtr so you could see if its cuing or anything
sorry for the rant.

February 12, 2006 at 2:48 am in reply to: out point mark is one frame longer than i want…can i fix?hey tom
thanx for your reply
all the questions you asked were addressd by edit succesfully, the in point was the frame you (the CTI) were on, the out point was one frame LESS than the frame you were on, except when it was the last frame of the sequence, then it was the frame you were on. when you played in to out it stopped on the last frame, but when you parked the cursor at the end of a clip, you saw the next shots first frame
BTW the linear systems also marked out One Frame Less than shown, they just called it the same number as the next edits inpoint to make it easy to see where you were. Which is How d-Vision treated it for the ease of editora makeing the transition from linear to NLE, which they then carried over to edit. which is why edit was so easy to use
Avid had a preference for which frame your outpoint was,but i never saw it set to anything other than one frame less than your mark out.
so apple should make it a preference as well

February 11, 2006 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Finishing HDV video with effects–should I transcode?Hey raltman
WE are doing a project we shot on hdv. we captured all the takes as separate clips instead of “one big capture”. This makes it easier for us to find stuff. I set up media manger to recompress everything dvcpro hd making a new project and about an hour later it was done. visually it looks the same as before, realtime performance is about the same or maybe a little better, but its rendering stuff a lot faster like 200% WE are doing a lot of speed tricks so its good we can render quickly.
I have done jobs at HDV and it seems my client was always asking ” i thought this machine was supposed to be fast?” After researching we found a few alternatives: Trascode it all to Apple intermediate but you lose the time code (even if you arent going to recap, timecode is how we locate stuff Apple DUH?) 10 bit uncompressed 1080i (huge files, like 3 gB for 20 seconds)
or DVCPROHD (files size not too bad, and its apple native!)Im sure there is a way once you have signed off on the takes you are using in your show to trasncode just that media to DVCPROHD. I would definitely do it to a new project as well (its agood idea to make a new folder for the media also. something like “MYProject DVCPRO HD”
The advantage to doing it hdv native is that it takes up less room on your media drives AND you can edit it on a laptop (but just cuts and dissolves. Once you start tricking around its render city!)
If I am missing anything, or am steering down a wrong road, could someone please chime in and STOP ME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE STOP ME AHHHHH!!! 🙂
hopes this helps

February 11, 2006 at 1:19 am in reply to: how about them keyframes? and how can they track my shot?hey all
I tried the copy and paste back trick, but i may not have had good keyframes to begin with, cuz it did not work.
I did look at the keyframe view, and that does help a lot
edit had a simlar “feature” with tim remapping in that it applied to ALL the media in the clip, not just the marked range. They were going to improve on it by limiting the scope to what you had marked, but then it went belly up.
it would be good to have a prefernce to scale attributes to in and out, as i rarely want to end my moves outside of my marks, especially since i can see them anyway!
thanx all again
