    Hey yall

I have to speed up some clips in FCP and i want to downpitch the sound

(love the way it does sound w pix!)

Whats the ryhyme or reason to translate the pitch values to percent of speed.

I guess its a musical scale, but i cant seem to see any correlation?

    thanx in advance

This should take you into the newest addition to the FCP family. Soundtrack Pro. You can speed up or slow down sound without adjusting pitch. What you would need to do is export the normal sound, and then adjust the length in STPro. This will work up until a point and then the audio will just sound kinda funky. Make sense?

    yES! thanx!

    however

I actually did a search on the internet for pitch and speed and got the following info:

the FCP AUPITCH Plugin changes pitch in Cents, which are hundredths of a semitone, which is equal to 6%. So a 1% change in pitch is equal to 16.7 cents.

based on this i had a clip at 112%, which is equal to 12 x 16.7 or 200.4, and sure enough, a downpitch setting of 200 or -200 makes the voices sound correct!

    I love the internet!
