    thanx les and all

it was more about making sure i was doing all the right gain staging between kona, my mackie mixer, beta etc

I know i can reconfigure so only fcp uses kona, but i also need to hear other apps that do not path directly to kona, such as qt, dvd studio, playboy etc. (ha ha on the last)

I went to the doc on kona audio as suggested, and on my system i get no percentages so i have to ball park the fader in the mac sound control pane as suggestedm which corresponds to 11 dots

    Kevin and David

Thanx! I know i have all those full quality render settings, but i beleive i have been doing the job with Unlimited RT as opposed to SAFE RT. I did not realize that the playback settings had an effect on the renders.(guess i should have read more of the manual?)

If waht you are suggesting is what i am thinking, By upping my RT settings, i will be upping my render settings, which will be upping my render times.

geez i thought is was slow before!

    oh well, thanx again

    thanx bret

By knowing that the procedure i am following is the right one and is not suspect, i can rule out operator error or that im nuts, and can now focus trouble shooting elsewhere. like these fine fine apple computers….

    BRET

    Thanx!

i can safely say i am not confusing projects

I only do save as to make a new project. from that point on i continue to work and save that project.

Lets say i am working on myproject1 and my system crashes. well my atosaves are at 10 min intervals, so chances are my last autosave is more current than my last save, so instead of re opening myproject1, i open the latest autosave of myproject1. once its open and i am sure its ok, i save as overwriting myproject1 i continue through the day, and i save all when i am done (as well as as often as i can remember).

    HOWEVER

when i come in the next day, myproject1 is not how i saved it, BUT myproject1 last autosave is

so, like i say, save all or save project doen not always seem to work

do i have to 1. open the autosave. 2. save as myproject1, 3
close the autosave and myproject1 and 4 open my project1 to keep working

i though once you did a save as and overwrote a project, from then on thats the project you were working on. I mean, thats how everything else works

March 5, 2006 at 4:06 am in reply to: Kona2 and IO LA not getting along very well…

    Hi

I have a Kona LH and an IO La on my dual 2.7 g5 running fcp 5.0.4.

I can only work with one or the other at one time, if i try to capture on my

IO la and listen on my kona i get beach ball

    Sooooooo

I have both my devices set up through my audio mixer and when i capture into the LA, i am monitoring through the LA, THEN I switch over to the kona, since that feeds my main video monitor. Same goes with capturing via the kona ie i monnitor the kona when i capture through the kona

the only system i find that works is to check the preference for “use different setup for edit to tape” then use my kona for playback and my io for edit to tape

    hope this helps

    bee eph

ALSO i always get that “cant find kona” message. I just ignore it and keep going

March 3, 2006 at 4:39 am in reply to: Best Program for Audio Recording

    Hi

When you are done with your session, burn your audio files to a cd. Zip em first so as to not lose any of the names. you can unzip em anytime and fcp will relink, no tape or edl necessary

same goes w soundtrack, or bias,

    my 2 cents

March 3, 2006 at 4:10 am in reply to: EDL to XLS

    hey neil

i have been messing around with trying to get bin info and edl’s out of an older nle (edit) and into FCP, as we are migrating that way. As such I have been stumbling around looking for txt, edk, xml converters etc. Here are some suggetsions, which i have not tried but claim to work

Take your sequence, put it in a bin, make a batch capture log, and see if you can bring that into excel, it may even put your clips in sequence order

also look into dharmafilm.com and sebsky tools, for converting fcp into ALE, which is a text based file that can be brought into excel

is the xml to text program you are referring to here:

    https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/XML2Text/

he sez he is looking for beta testers.

also how about automatic duck, maybe one of the flavors it supports can be read by ecel as a text file?

    hope this helps
