  • my basic motion moves dont render too good….

    Hi

i know my sub line should say “my basic motion moves do not render well”
but i wanted to get attention 😉

been hackin away at this fcp thing for a couple o months. been using weylands book and been doing some trial and error

    fcp studio 5.0.4 , os 10.4, dual 2.7 g5, kona lh

I made an effect consisting of 4 clips of stock footage (2 downloaded as mov, and 2 digitized kona 8 bit off beta sp) scaled them down to quarter size, and moved em across the frame, r to l taking about 5 to 7 seconds per move.

no matter how i change my settings the render does not look good.

theres noise in the frames, as well as ringing around contrast objects, like a plane in the sky, as well as ringing around the frames themselves. it looks like at a low resolution.

I started with an 8 bit sequence, tried 10 bit, made sure my render quality was 100%, as well as my process settings at precision 10 bit, best motion quality.

I have trashe the prefs, and deleted all the old renders,(emptied the trash) but to know avail.

has anyone seen this? can someone help?

I would not be concerned except when the effects are done in AE, there is none of these artifacts. (i would try to do them in motion, but i do not have the time to learn how!)

    thanx for any insight whatever

    Hey Bob,

Something is wrong with your settings, cuz that would be grounds for divorce if it were inherant in FCP. What are your render quality settings, and do you have “Full” checked in the render drop down for both selection and sequence?

Rule 1: Always check your rendered graphics in a video monitor and NOT the Canvas.
Also, make sure the PIPs are on a whole, even integer for the X axis.
You must be in Safe RT at Full Quality in the RT Pop Up as well.

There are many pitfalls in getting clean renders, but with FCP 5 you certainly can get great quality for your renders.

    Kevin and David

Thanx! I know i have all those full quality render settings, but i beleive i have been doing the job with Unlimited RT as opposed to SAFE RT. I did not realize that the playback settings had an effect on the renders.(guess i should have read more of the manual?)

If waht you are suggesting is what i am thinking, By upping my RT settings, i will be upping my render settings, which will be upping my render times.

geez i thought is was slow before!

    oh well, thanx again
