  • Losing Timecode on DVCPRO50 Capture of EDL…why?

    Hi

I have a kona lh that i am using to capture an imported edl of Betacam Footage. I am using the Kona DVCPRO 50 codec. When i import the edl the clips all show up in the bin with reel names and media start and end.

HOWEVER once the clips a re cpatured the reel number goes away and the source tc starts at zero. on every clip. even ones i log and “capture clip”

I I captured a betacam last night and the numbers are still there, so this is ne

I also captured a bunch of DVCPRO50 via firewire and thats all fine

Does Kona drop the TC like Apple Intermediate? or is this a bigger issue?

    FCP5.0.4, Kona LH v 1.2.1, os 10.4, dual 2.7 g5

    thanx!

    bee eph

Are you sure you are looking at the media start and media end? Perhaps you are looking at the in and out columns? Where’s your edl from? Also, what do you mean the number goes away on ones that you have recaptured from an edl and even logged and captured, but the numbers are still there from some thing that you captured? Seems like a contradiction to me.

    hey jeremy

I captured a clip 2 days ago through the kona lh dvcpro50, and all is well, it still has the tc from the tape associated w the clip

    BUT

yesterday i captured an edl, gvg 4 channel v7 from dicreet edit, and i did not notice ubtil i had to recapture some stuff that the tc was gone, and i do mean media start and end. I know fer sure this is not some display quirk because i tried to recapture the clip from the tape it came from and even though the clip was supposed to start at 2:05:00:00 the deck rewound all the way to the head and i got an error message saying the tape could not cue

SOOOO I decided to recapture the clip manually,Opened Log and Capture, set an in and out captured clip, and once it was done cpatureing THIS clip had a zero start time, just likie the others

Is this some Kona LH wirdness? has anyone had this kind of problem before?

I hav no fire wire from my deck (beta sp 1800) soo i have no way to troubleshoot this problem

I need to recapture this stuff AND save the TC so I can RE REcapture it down the road for revisions

    Thanx Again

To me, it sounds like a funky EDL. Obviously your Kona Card is working as you are able to log & capture successfully. The only time it gets screwed up is when this EDL is involved. I’d start your troubleshooting there.

Another thing to check is your the default device control presets for DVCPRO 50. Make sure that it’s set to Sony VTR and not Panasonic VTR as that’s usually where DV50 originates from, and perhaps you should see if it’s set at LTC or VITC and change it to one or the other, or both and make sure your 1800 is outputting the same.
