check out markertek at http://www.markertek.com. they have various multipin to bnc breakouts. but if they do not have the one you need for the 1800 (i recall they lean more towards camera breakouts) you can always use a 3 bnc RGB cable, which they also sell.

RGB cables w bnc connectors are still pretty common, so you should be able to google “RGB CABLES” and get a bunch of hits

we have no sdi gear here so all we use are 3 or 4 conductor RGB cables with BNC’s at both ends, some custom, and some we bought at a local electronics supply store

actually, i think i missed the bigger point that fcp CAN do multiple streams real time, the limiting factor is the drive/are the drives.

so, where can i look for info as to throughput vs performance. i though that we had a couple of pretty fast arrays, but apparently not

how the f do you get 10 streams? 🙂 are you talking multi clip? i am lucky if i get 3 streams of 16×9 dv50 to play.

example: i have a dv 50 fg with 3 green frames and a simple color key. i then have a talking head scaled down and keyed in one of the windows, and then a still tga in the other, and as soon as it plays it drops to 50% rez, maybe more, and 15 fps.

the only time i have ever ever ever gotten more than 2 or 3 streams to play clean is when they are part of a multi clip

intel dual 2.66, 2gB ram, FW800 2 drive sata array @75mB/sec read time average, aja IO la

so please, enlighten me!

when i tell fcp to forget them, it doesnt seem to do anything becasue the next time i open the project it asks me again

i like the idea of a new project

i am afraid of this make independent function, only cuz ia ma not exactly sure how it works, and i tried using it once to make alternate recaptures and it overwrote my originals

but when i have a minute, like june, i will try it.

so does this mean that when i drag my nest out of the destination timeline to the browser (or a bin) it too becomes a seperate iteration? and what happens if i drag my nest from the root browser level, to a bin? is that a seperate iteration?

it seems that fcp makes a lot of distinctions between edit/record (F9 F10 F11) and cut and paste. I think thats where i have been getting slowed down, even after several months. I am used to cut a paste being just another waht to insert/overwrite

One thing you can try is to look for the menu option to enable all the vtr front panel controls when in remote, so that you do not need to switch out of remote to play.

as i remember, some NLE’s (discreet edit?) actually did play the tape a bit til the code showed up, then would cue. if there was no code after like 3 seconds, the NLE would stop the tape and give an error message.

i always hit play when ever i pop in a new tape. old habit i guess

i recall hearing that support for the xpri was killed about a year ago. no new software, no upgrades etc

sony has done this ad nauseuam, brought out turnkey nle’s only to let them languish and fade away.

there was some models around when DVcam was introduced. the ES3 adn ES7, big whoop being 4x capture via proprietary SDI. dont see them anywhere do ya?

why dont they stick to waht they do best? cameras, tape machines, monitors switchers, and microphones and stay out of the overnight obsolescence realm of computers and capture cards ie the people they need to play along with the nicest!

You can transfer the Avid bin info using a freeware program called sebskys tools. he has written an ALE to FCP translater

you could also ask around and see if anyone could do an auto duck for you, maybe by the hour or something (thats probably waht you are doing now?)

Edls should work for the avid sequences, there are a few limits to the info that gets carried over. you can search this forum for EDL and you should get more info as to waht you can and cannot translate

however, i would be a little concerned about wonky timecode. ie if the footage was captured with erroneous tc, you may be stuck with that.

(wonky tc may be caused by other things as well, like avid dealing with nested comps, or graphics and such. May also be casued by using the word wonky in a sentence 🙂 )
