delete reference to unused clip ie permanently forget
hey
when i ammworking i often have to import and or integrate a bunch of temporary or rough version type media files. when i near the end of a project i usually move them off or even delete them.
what do i have to do so Final cut wont keep reminding me to reconnect to those files everytime i open the project?
I have tried deleteing all the instances of them, but to know avail
any help?

Well, when FCP asks you to reconnect them, it will also ask you if you want to forget them. Just check the box and FCP will forget them.

OR… You could create two other projects, one with all of your deleted media and one without the deleted media clips.

Maybe even simpler to make duplicate sequences. One you could make all the clips independent, then make them offline (but don’t delete from disk. Should work, no?

when i tell fcp to forget them, it doesnt seem to do anything becasue the next time i open the project it asks me again
i like the idea of a new project
i am afraid of this make independent function, only cuz ia ma not exactly sure how it works, and i tried using it once to make alternate recaptures and it overwrote my originals
but when i have a minute, like june, i will try it.
