Thats what I’ve been telling some of my buddies, just to hold off. That dual core computer is probably going to set us back 4 or 5 grand but it should be 2 to 3 times faster than current models. I’ve got my fingers crossed for the xstation. June 6th is just around the corner so just hang in there a little bit longer.

Under System Settings there is a tab called Memory & Cache, There is a slidebar for the amount of Ram that FCP is available to use. Just slide the bar back to 80%.

BTW, you should at least have 1.5 GB’s of memory in your computer. The OS needs about 250megs just to run.

I just got off the phone with their technical support. The answer I got was very vague but they basically said that the way I want to do it is not possible. I’d have to change over to another codec like hdpro or 8 bit uncompressed.

I just got off the phone with a guy from B&H Photo, who says the black magic cards are merely capture cards if I’m looking to do uncompressed, which I”m not. They have some real time capability but if I’m looking to go from an HDV timeline and downconvert to SD, thats not what these cards do. So now I’m back to square one.

Can you recommend which specific card, to go with. I can only have a PCI card now because my PCI-X is taken from an internal RAID.

So this card Encodes HDV to SD but I’d still have to encode to MPEG2 which is fine because all I want is a HDV master.

I’ve bought RAM from 2 places that are extremely reasonable and no problems. Transintl.com and Outpost.com

I just bought 2 – 1 gig from transintl for about 240.00 which I thought was reasonable. Its samsung brand. Outpost sells kingston even cheaper than most other places sell it. Either way I havent had any problems using it.

I dont believe you can upgrade from 2 to 5. I’m pretty sure you need to be upgrading from 4 or 3 at the least. Call apple and ask them.

Maybe they’re keeping it to themselves. I’ll be getting my copy tomorrow and one way or another I’ll let you know how it works out.
