    Help!

I bought an accedemic version of 4.5 last year and found out that these versions are not elegible for upgrading to fcp5. I went out on ebay looking for a full retail version of an earlier release and found fcp2 at a reasonable cost. However, the description says it runs on OS 9 and I’m running panther. Can I buy this earlier version for the registration number alone or will i need to actually install the software. If I do need to install the software can I do so with panther and expect it to run in the “classic” mode?

Also, if i’m going to install an earlier version should I make sure 4.5 is uninstalled from my main HD first and to disconnect my external drive with existing project files first?

Any giudence would be appreciated. Thanks!

I dont believe you can upgrade from 2 to 5. I’m pretty sure you need to be upgrading from 4 or 3 at the least. Call apple and ask them.

If it’s like it has been in the past, you can upgrade from any previous version of FCP to the latest.

If I buy fcp 2 do I have to install it or just use the registration code? If I do need to install would it run in the “classic” mode in panther?

Just the registration code. Since FCP4, Apple doesn’t require the previous version of FCP to be on the drive, since newer systems won’t boot into OS 9.
