Thats pretty much what I thought. I do like the archiving abilities of blue ray but from what I understand they are unsupported in macs right now. I’m sure drivers will be out shortly though

I have a dual 2 GHZ power mac. Whats the quickest I could expect to render that project in HDV?

I’m more or less curious if we are suppose to output HDV, AIC or whatever then encode it to something else. Currently I output DV then encode to .m2v Will there be a similar process?

I have 2 – 1TB lacie drives and 2 500 gb drives. One of the TB drives just died on me and I lost about 1/2 of the info on it. Just yesterday one of the 500 crapped out on me. Do yourself a favor and go with the OWC (otherworldcomputing) drives. They have great enclosures and good cooling. I think the trouble with the lacie drives is the lack of cooling.
I’ve never had a bad drive in over 20 years. I’ve had drives that seemed a bit tired and I had time to back them up but these drives gave absolutely no warning. STAY AWAY

I’m looking into the OPtoma 739 right now. A few friends say they are a great bang for the buck and are about 2500 lumens with a contrast ratio of about 2000. I’ll have to find a place in rhode island that carries them, so I can take a peak.

Unfortunately thats not an option. I have to many things to do by running all over the place to rent equipment for the weekend. I’ve also had problems with rentals in the past. Some of the equipment can look pretty beat up. Here in Rhode Island there really arent many good close by facilities to work with either.

Why not just use your own powermac. Transintl.com makes a package for aournd 400.00 that can convert 3 drives into a raid. I bought the hitachi 400 to create a 1.2 internal raid. Its lighting fast and flawless. You can buy the drives reasonably for around 160 from zipzoomfly.com So for under 1000.00 you can have an internal raid.
