  • Please help… Final Cut Pro 5 eats all my RAM

Hello all. Final Cut 5 is grabbing hold of 1.2G’s of RAM and won’t let go. As a result, whenever I try to open my sequence, it tells me I don’t have enough memory. It’s a big project (256mb), but now it also takes about 45min to load. It used to only take 10 minutes with FCP 4.5.

I have a G4 powerbook with a 1.25 processer. I’m running on OSX 10.3.9 and have all my media on a firewire 800 external drive. i’ve reduced the playback quality to the lowest possible, and still nothing. I’m getting close to tossing FCP 5 for now and reinstalling 4.5. frustrating. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My deadline is fast approaching…

Under System Settings there is a tab called Memory & Cache, There is a slidebar for the amount of Ram that FCP is available to use. Just slide the bar back to 80%.

BTW, you should at least have 1.5 GB’s of memory in your computer. The OS needs about 250megs just to run.
