[Matth_pa] “Eventually I want to teach videography/digital photography”

What grade level of students are you going to be teaching? There is a difference between teaching basics and high level NLEs

Is it 16:9 or 4:3 footage that you are trying to get the frame from?

[Don Greening] “Is there not a setup within Permiere to choose between capturing using firewire and a 3rd party PCI capture card?”

If there is a third party capture card installed you usually select parameters that use it when you first setup your project.

You need some New processors and a MoBo, The intel conroe core 2 processors are a good upgrade

  • Any version of Ppro except ver 2.x doesn’t like Mpeg2 files, Mpeg1 will work with quicktime 5 or higher installed, likewise with AFX 6.x, AFX 7/Ppro 2 will handle mpeg2 files with QT installed, information on file types for import and export is advailable in the instruction manual that came with your software.

    [Annietron] “my pc is a pentium 4 2.26 G”

Like Harm mentioned you should consider a computer upgrade, your processor is under powered for HDV.

[Ryan Santos] “What could be the problem?”

Before someone can give you any insight you should, describe your project’s settings and what settings you are trying to export otherwise you will get WAGs.

January 6, 2007 at 11:18 pm in reply to: Help.. Capturing my video ??

[blondie4fun] “I have only captured about 2 videos and I have used up 28 GB already of my harddrive and I have about 24 more tapes to load in. My harddrive space is only 149 GB (which did not cause a problem last year and I cleaned all my old footage off of it and starteed new)”
As has been mentioned DV video takes up alot of space, a disk to hold it all isn’t too expensive these days, a 500gB sataII drive is only about $140+shipping, I don’t know how much space you are going to be able to afford, but large ammounts of video can be unwieldly, and sometimes its better to review your video, make a capture list for each tape and batch capture, also a hard copy storyboard, rough trimming will save your space and give you a better perspective of the project, if you are not familar with the processes you can do a search of the forum for “batch capture”, “how to trim”, and “storyboarding” there are also resources that you can find on the net by searching.
