To add to Vincent post, the problems you are having is from trying to use a $600 NLE to manage assets beyond its scope, You need to contact a consultant and have them setup a Video Data Management and Information Retrieval system otherwise invest in a more upscale system that has larger data management capabilities.

Why don’t you attach a specific number to the ammount of clips you want to use and can use.

You ought to supply what version of the program you are working with, the workflow and settings you are using, some computer specs, the artifacts maybe caused by excessive motion, or noise, one thing to do is examime the source footage at the points the artifacts show up to see if there maybe some event that could be causing them.

Where did you get the footage, from Avid or a DVX

Premiere v7 is Ppro v1, Harddisk camcorders use types of Mpeg compression, Ppro versions other than Version 2 do not like the Mpeg format except for Mpeg 1, if you have a DVD or hardisk camcorder you are better off with Premiere Elements 3 or Ulead Video Studio.

In what way outside of the capture problems you’re having? I’ve also noticed that you have not listed the specs of your system and how you are setting up your project, connection to your system and workflow up till you are having problems, this information is crucial to troubleshooting problems.

Like Vincent mentioned pulling keys from DV is not impossible usually you need an aid, like mentioned I use AFX, I was using Canopus before they stopped supporting Premiere, if you plan on doing alot of keying there is also Ultra 2 software from Serious Magic https://www.seriousmagic.com which can aid the process considerably

Your next step maybe to rough out a syllabus each semmester of the grade ranges taking into consideration of people leaving an elective course, like starting with basic Photo/Video and then working up to producing a Public Access program for the school in upper grades, I would be more concerned with teaching good basics vice locking in to one NLE.

One other thing is: What formats will the station accept? Also does the station trans-code themselves, that maybe where the artifacts could be coming from.
