All of the audio in your project needs to be 48KHz if you will output to any digital VTR. If you imported audio from CD, that is at a 44.1KHz sample rate, and it needs to be sample-rate converted before outputting your project. Most Avid versions will ask you if you want to convert upon import when you try to bring in material that doesn’t match the project settings.

What about the sound? The bit rate for each stream of sound and subtitles is in addition to the bit rate for the picture. If you used uncompressed (PCM) audio, you might be pushing your luck if the picture contains spikes of high birate.

What encode rate are you using for picture and sound in your project? If the combined bitrates for your picture and sound are already near the limit, you might not be able to add a subpicture track, each of which adds 0.4 Mbit/sec. to the total bitrate.

An overrun during capture means that the storage is not taking away the data created by digiting fast enough. Are your drives speced for uncompressed capture? If the drives work correctly only on compressed resolutions, that indicates that your drives and/or the data bus are not fast enough.

I can’t comment on the Mac, but I am running a Wacom tablet with Xpress Pro 4.6 on Windows XP and they work great together.

All those graphics-intensive news & weather shows are created using a system called Visrt. You create a template having the overall graphic design one time. Once you have the template, you can plug-in the text information very quickly.

Use the “Add Splice” to add an edit in the middle of a clip. If I were editing a two-camera shoot, I would use the multicam editing function rather than putting each camera on its own layer. Much faster & easier. But if you want to, you can add splices in the top track where needed and lift out the section of the top track where the bottom track is on-line. Put dissolves on the ends of the clips on the top track.

We have the 19″ Planar LCD monitor on our G5. I personally am not a lover of LCD monitors, but the Planar monitors are nice.
