Add an effect to middle of clip
Posted by Joshua Earles-bennett on June 16, 2005 at 2:54 pmI shot a band during a live performance with two cameras. We synced are timecode before the show and I have the two video clips lined up perfectly on the timeline. Now how do I add dissolves so I can go from one layer to the next? Is there a razorblade key so I can cut the clip, like in Preimere and FCP? What’s the best way to do this? Thanks.

June 16, 2005 at 3:23 pmP splits the track where the curser is sitting. It will add a split to all tracks selected.

I did that and it kind of works, but the result I get is it removes the clip after the curser, or play head. Is there anyway to just split the track without removing any of the track? Thanks.

June 16, 2005 at 7:07 pmThat is a cut, it shouldn’t remove anything, just put a split in it.
Not sure what you did to remove after the cursor.Charlie

Am I supposed to do this on the timeline or in the Source window? I’m using Avid Xpro. Thanks for all your help.

June 17, 2005 at 3:35 pmI’m not as familiar with XPro, but if like any other, you do it in the time line.
Maybe someone more familiar with XPro can help more.Charlie

June 17, 2005 at 4:13 pmUse the “Add Splice” to add an edit in the middle of a clip. If I were editing a two-camera shoot, I would use the multicam editing function rather than putting each camera on its own layer. Much faster & easier. But if you want to, you can add splices in the top track where needed and lift out the section of the top track where the bottom track is on-line. Put dissolves on the ends of the clips on the top track.

How do I go about using Multicam mode. I don’t even see it in the help menu, but I’ve heard about it.

June 17, 2005 at 8:45 pmHey Josh
you have to pic your 2 clips, in your bin, then group them. Then take that group onto your timeline. From there you can play the 2 in realtime and ad edits on the fly as you watch. Then go back after and trim your clips up to fine tune it. Check the help menu ‘it’s all there.Have fun!!
