October 18, 2005 at 2:33 pm in reply to: Is HDV 24p possible in FCP 5

    Thanks for replying, Wayne-

I have an opportunity to work on a doc where the DOP will be using that JVC camera & I need to upgrade, so I was trying to figure out if I could take the project-I don’t have a true HD Ref Monitor, and from what I have seen of the stats on the JVC, I should be able to work w/ the data rates. What confuses me is the overall system requirements for HDV- it seems to be an in-between format…true HD would of course be impossible on my present config, but a 1394 connection bringing signal at @ 25mbytes/sec seems entirely doable.

I realize this is a whole new post, but I thought I would ask whether in your opinion what I am proposing sounds realistic…

    Thanks!

  • The .txt would explain the “text” haha..I can’t believe I spent all that time messing with something so easily fixed.

I know about the lyric sheets- but the venue was so killer I had to use the video…must be the Rock and Roll lifestyle taking it’s toll. Ahem.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hey bogiesan
I like your sigfile- I see, based on your answer, that my problem is equal parts syntax and application. I have been playing around and it seems like success for me is in manipulating the frame rate/audio sample rate.

At this point it’s good. If you want to see it, check out http://www.suziemcneil.ca in like an hour.

    Thanks for yr. help

  • To further clarify-

I am running FCP 4.5, and have the Prod Suite w/ all of its concomitant apps.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Yes Nic-

I am on a show with long speeches and the producer has been using TC to pick soundbites.

I thought a nice big TC bar would allow me a little space at the controls.

Thanks for the replies ladies and gentlemen-

I appreciate knowing about Timecode Burn in and I will check out that tutorial!

    mr2005-

As it happens, everything is pretty organized- Tapes are #’d in the project and the telecine log and I am presently burning all project-related data to DVD, along with music, etc.

Based on your post, it looks like all is well here.

    Thanks for replying,

I’m with Walter-It sounds like you are lacking processing power-if simple processes like running the program are hanging and crashing FCP, you probably need RAM. Again, this is without seeing your config.

  • Mitch-

Thanks for writing back- As it turns out, I felt like we were too much in the danger zone for comfort. You are right- 10-bit will play, but as soon as you apply a transition, the beauty is over. It’s ok. I had my doubts, but had to try it to be sure.

I so want a SATA array. It is the very next thing on the list. When the time came to online, we ended up bringing our rig to the post house because Automatic Duck to AVID disappointed and they didn’t have FCPHD yet. So. How much fun to see our little monster driving the $40K decks effortlessly. Such a tease.

In the end, we laid off an 8bit DVCAM Master for Fest Apps and all is well. The film looks great and we have a little window to update things.

Um… the long response to yr concise post.

Thanks for the laughs Bob…I welcome the same treatment if I ever begin to take myself too seriously here.

Re: the NVidia card…do you mean the Ultra w/ the fan? I’ll check it. Last I looked it was selling for about six Benjamins, which is heady, but sometimes if you want to land the big gigs you need a large…rod (?) Horrible metaphor, pardon that.

This suite has come a long way in a year. FWIW, the project rendered out ok at 8-bit uncompressed but I know that the present setup is being pushed as far as she can go graphically.

Thanks so much for your help!
