So funny how proprietary even our thinking can get. I may just cut’n’paste your advisory notice in the future!

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hey TIm-

I’m going downtown today to hit a friend’s suite (he has Cleaner). I guess if this type of delivery continues to be what I do, then the investment in Flip4Mac or Cleaner is going to happen. Normally it doesn’t take much for me to get behind any new ‘ware purchase, but lately I’ve wondered if I’m pathological.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hey Shane-

I was outputting through QT as a self-contained/hinted movie. I did the same thing for another site and all appears to be well there.

The Sorenson 3 setting is for direct output from FCP, right? The way I did it this time, I exported through Compressor and took the resulting mp4s through QT.

Based on what you’ve written, it’s better prcatice to export right from the timeline and get streams that way….right?

    Hello footagehead-

The sample rate in the FCP browser is set at 32-bit floating point and the Audio Playback Quality under User Prefs>General is set to high. Is there another setting that I may have missed?

    Thanks again for the reply!

    Thanks, Matte.

I understand what you are proposing. What I need to do is nudge the audio to the right (the entire track) so that it lands between frames. The audio (two stereo pairs) is from a separate source than the video and for some reason one of the two pairs syncs fine with the video and the other doesn’t. But they were taken at the same rate, etc. and so this is a curious thing.

I know I could take them into Logic, etc. but there is no guarantee that they won’t come back together a half frame out-

Maybe this is the part where I get down with timecode between apps, etc. instead of just eyeballing it.

    Thanks for the reply

  • Got it, Bret. Thanks for responding. When I work with this particular client again, I’ll double up on my tape stock and dub it all at the outset.

The G5 duals were a landmark machine in that they were a tool many of us used to exit the swamp of suite rentals into the small business model. I’ve been in many conversations with many people about sacrifices they were willing to make to acquire one, and success they have had since. These users are not elite early-adapters, they rearranged personal assets to get into the game. Once in the game, they began paying attention to the market, etc.

These new Quads feel like two things- a hot-housed market offering intended to address some growth model presented at a meeting somewhere, and an option for the top-shelf users to play with until they buy the Intel machines next year. Either way, they are not essential to own for these exact reasons: 1. If they drive the Dual prices down, great, the Duals are solid, get one of those. This is not like the G4 to G5 product change.
    2. If you have a dual and you are a happy, earning person, you will most likely wait until the Intel machines are debugged before rearranging your assets again.

Remember how long people kept their dual G4s before considering a G5? I still see G4s in busy suites all the time.

I believe that this product introduction attempts to capitalize on the oncoming hardware transition and although like any new Apple offering it tempts devotees in that tactile Apple way, it’s nothing to go into debt over.

    Wayne-

Thanks! I have the FW800 drives coming in through a Sonnet card. The Io would have to be disconnected while digitizing so I can get to the G5’s FW bus. I think things should work fine…
