About your question, you have several options:
1: rotoscoping. Basically you create a mask arround the contour of the actor and update it as he or she moves. Then you can mask parts out when a body part is going behind another actor and so on. This technique can also be used for other cool effects. I think on videocopilot.net you find a tutorial of it for time freezing 🙂

2: greenscreen. Pop out a portable greenscreen on set (on location is much better in this case for having the same lighting conditions) and key the actor(s) out. Then you can place him in front of the other actor for example.

The most tricky though, is that both actors react naturally to eachother (especially the eyes).

You can import your AE project into Encore and render everything in encore to a final product if that is your prefer. (dvd menu’s also)
In AE i think you can choose (after you did, At composition to render que) the avi/h.264 codec. As long as you render it.

Thank you for you quick response. That’s fantastic that it works on Premiere CS4 without problems, cool!
We are shooting the “Batavierenrace”, the biggest student team marathon/relay along Europe (and mayby World) from Nijmegen to Enschede. (https://www.batavierenrace.nl/en/the-race/)

We’re gonna shoot live on AIR for our Television Channel at the start and finish. In between a camera men on a motorcycle will shoot. The Radio channel will also make live commentairy. Our live director setup unfortunatly doesn’t support native for these cams (abit outdated allready), and the images will be downsampled from HD, but the footage will also be used to make a few compilations, trailers etc for the web in HD.

if the mutiple HDV files are lurching to much of your pc you can always use proxy’s and replace them in the final step with your HDV footage. Videocopilot has a tutorial on how to use them (https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/proxies_and_workflow_tips/)

hi there,

Render with alpha. You want to put your animation layer on top of your footage in Premiere (like lower-thirds etc) or for titles.

When your animation is done creating(in AE) add your comp tot the render queue in AE and use QuickTime as the output format. Select a codec like Animation or PNG and change the depth to RGB + Alpha.
now you have your footage/animation with transparent background ready to drop in other applications!
In photoshop you also need to export your layers/creation in png if you want to hold the transparency

hi there,

you can just put your video over your sunglases (drop opacity to center). then use the mask tool on your videolayer to create the same shape as your glases. when that’s done. you can play with the video-layer transfer modes like”add” or “lighten” or whatever looks good. for a more realistic you could do some tricks seen on videocopilot tutorials, or think some of yourself. it depends on the lighting of your glases and your footage.

those explosions are realy cool. on http://www.videocopilot.net at the products you have “action movie essentials” which has nice explosions which you can drop right into your footage(mayby slomo the footage abit, they are fast). ofcourse you need some daybri and other stuff flying arround and those rocks with the smoke who launch in. Action movie essentials has also some smoke elements. then there is at his tutorials the planet-explosion tutorial on his site aswell, great effects.

that’s weird. surely AE can import mp3, only doesn’t like it that much, but it works, or it should be. mayby you missing some codec. If you wanna be sure, download the “K-lite” codec pack (google it and you will find). it has the newest and most usefull codeces for free to play audio and video.(and good ones)

after you restart your pc, if it still doesn;t work try reinstall AE mayby or just simple covert to .wav as stated above with for example
audio converter plus, or you can try premiere pro as wel (export audio only)

there is some info in the AE manual (or helpcentre) as wel. also there are some tutorials here at creativecow that involves this. It sure come in handy when knowing how it works, some buttons are still abit mistery to me to (in the graph panel)

you can find alot of “tv simulation” information by searchin through the after effects forums(maby archives and commen AE questions big in red in this forum section). (just search for those kewords). ofcourse there sure are some tutorials about tv simulation here.
I’m not that into Sony Vegas, can’t help you there. but the stuff here at the cow is worth looking into.
