    hi there,

normaly use Premiere pro for editing etc and do your visual effecs in AE. but yeah in a music video, normaly I also go for AE 🙂
    what i do:
devide your music video into sections. now you have serveral clips per section and you can edit them. Then “pre-compose” them and at all the pre-compose section in a new comp on the timeline for you master(the master comp). then when you “alt-doubble click on windows pc” on any pre-comp in your master it opens up that comp in a new timelin so you can work on that. that comp is, what you choose yourself, is alot cleaner and more overview than everything stick togheter.
tip: you can also do an overal “COLOR CORRECTION” on that PRE-COMP with al the shots in it. saves alot of work. You can also use transitions and stuff between pre-comps.
read more about them in the help-menu of After effects

    heey Harm

Nice to see some Dutch-speakin’ guys here ^^

-I won’t use a tripod, you wanna get the feeling in the boat, tripod is to static.
-There were some pritty nice “sun down” shots (or at least, i saw one) mayby put more shots in it from the magic “dusk” or “dawn” (ochtend en avond gloed).
-If you had a water-casing for you camera, you could get some need side-boat action through the waves 🙂
-I think you should also put some more close-up shots from the people when they work on the boat.
-music is cool, but the cut ended at .56 minutes you realy need to change, the song ends weird. the music cut before that had a few seconds silence, mayby fill that in.

overal: nice shots, just a little bit work on the tiny details and it’s nice (het geeft een mooi sensatie van de boot en de omgeving, heerlijk weer!)

    hi Kevin

I always thought that the multi-processor plugin automaticly installed with AE and is active when you have dual core. (in AE7)

It’s weird, because in the preferences i can’t find any tap called “multi-processing”. This is some new feature in CS3 ??

  • hi Martin,

capturing is no problem, that’s even possible in CS2 with in and out points. I on the other hand only mean for big/long video files allready digital. but I saw PP only makes a reference file, it doesn’t importing the whole one and stores it in some media cache file (does it only with audio), so that makes things nicer. I now only need to cut alot of footage away, but that’s no problem I guess

    how about this:

duplicate your video layer 4 times. now, on layer video 1(precompose please) , mask it off so that it fits your left screen. corner pin it. if you do this for all windows with all the layers, you end up with essentialy 1 video playing on 4 different screens. it’s a nice effect

    good luck!

June 9, 2008 at 3:34 pm in reply to: How this effect is made?

interesting, for the “many guys on the water” i think in first they used just simple “live painting”(search for painting in AE help) inside AE, because al the motion stays the same then, and yeah, rotoscope alot, use the echo effect for the guys to go together.
make some shots from another angle and make a very nice transition between the two(the camera switch u see)

  • hi Mike,

yep, I knew that allready (otherwise I would have noticed in media cache file). As I thought allready(wasn’t sure), such feature doesn’t exits (importing segments that I specifiy) mayby there is some plugin or other trick for it, but than you would have known that.
okey, than it’s back to cutting and deleting stuff 🙂

    thanxs,

    Bart
