I was wondering how the explosion effect in the movie cloverfield was created (youtube it if you dont know what i mean, the trailer should do), the scene in the beginning with the big explosion by the city towers, i do have particle illusion and it looked like the 2nd time they edited it, it looked like what particle illusion couldve done (search for cloverfield tv spots and there should be a different explosion.) so basically, i want to know how they did both types of explosions, i do have a 3d program too cinema 4d and after effects so help?

    hi there

those explosions are realy cool. on http://www.videocopilot.net at the products you have “action movie essentials” which has nice explosions which you can drop right into your footage(mayby slomo the footage abit, they are fast). ofcourse you need some daybri and other stuff flying arround and those rocks with the smoke who launch in. Action movie essentials has also some smoke elements. then there is at his tutorials the planet-explosion tutorial on his site aswell, great effects.
