Currently, CPU speed and RAM are the biggest factor in render speed.
So getting the fastest processor you can afford would be your best option. And load the machine with at least 1GB (preferrably 2GB) of fast RAM.

Chris, I am assuming it is square pixels… correct?”Yes, for other aspect ratios a part of the image is usually cropped out.

If you have the Decklink HD, there’s no analog outputs on it.
The Decklink HD Pro does have component analog out. So that would be one of your options. Another would be to go with a multibridge.
Check the different HD boards at:

Where are the files being scaled?
Cineon files are stored in 10-bit log. But there’s no specification for degraining. The film plates I deal with always still have all their grain.
If you need to remove the grain you should do this before doing any scaling or other processing.
The Remove Grain tools in AE 6.5 Pro are very sophisticated, albeit a bit slow.

May 31, 2005 at 8:52 pm in reply to: Is it raining outside? (need of help with delirium rain fx)You can either precompose the rain layer and apply a mask to the layer to confine the effect to the inside of the mask.
Or:
Create a separate track matte that covers the area you want the effect in, by drawing a mask on a solid layer.
Place this layer on top of the rain layer.
Set the track matte of the rain layer to the masked solid.

Due to the nature of the lensflare phenomenon (light bouncing around inside the lens construction) there isn’t such a thing as a lensflare that’s visible on a completely white background.
Two options: make your background a light grey, so the lensflare stands out.
Or for creative reasons you could do a lensflare on a black background and invert the result. Won’t look realistic, but you get an inverted lensflare on a white background.Bar3nd

I just hooked up a Behringer Ultramatch Pro (SRC 2496) to a Decklink HD Pro board, (SPDIF to analog and back), which is about half the price of a Flying Cow. It works great so far.

Add an adjustment layer on top of the original footage. Apply a 4 pixel blur. Set blend mode of the adjustment layer to ‘color’.
Drag this comp into a new one, and apply the keyers in there.

However that makes me think that that’s why Digital Domain built Nuke a while ago.”🙂 Yes… but I don’t know of too many shops outside of Digital Domain that actually use Nuke in their pipeline. Which kind of limits the employment opportunities… And that’s where all of a sudden it’s a pretty sensible idea to know your way around After Effects 🙂
Funny thread 🙂
