Don’t add frameblending.
Export to a tiff sequence for instance, and you’ll end up an image file for each frame.
Is the material interlaced?

[Steve Roberts] “(Hi Barend!)”
Huh?
Well, but now that my name is mentioned… There’s two things here: the scaling and the compression. I haven’t compared scaling algorythms between Compressor and AE, but I’d think for downscaling AE will do fine.
Depending on how grainy the source is you might want to degrain it a bit before scaling down. This will result in a much smoother image, that will compress a lot better.
You could use Adobe’s MPEG compressor, but I haven’t compared it to Compressor. I’ve used TMPGENC in the past, which is excellent for the price.
One thing to check: are you going to do an NTSC DVD? You’ll need to get into the whole pulldown situation which I’m no expert on. I’d give it a try in the DVD authoring forum. If you also want to do a PAL DVD I’d go back to the 2k source and do a PAL conversion from the 2k sequence. You don’t want to convert NTSC to PAL.

June 13, 2005 at 3:56 pm in reply to: Help! What is the best way in AE to render image for Film output?Actually, the only way to do an educated guess of what your material will look like once it’s printed to film is do tests. Output a couple of frames to film, and compare them to your monitor.
There are also some high-end film-mimicking tools that will take your output and process it to predict the result of the film transfer, but since the process is quite dependent on the method and transferhouse it needs a lot of tweaking to get it to work well.
The alternative is to do an additional color grade at the transferhouse where they usually have their monitors adjusted to match their film output.

The AMD 64-bit CPU’s can also run a 32-bit OS fine. There’s not much of a speed gain. Most people using 64-bit CPU’s are waiting for WinXP 64-bit and suitable drivers.

June 12, 2005 at 8:15 pm in reply to: installing render engine on a machine with ae standard edition? No need to install the render engine on top of a full install. A full install of AE can also function as a render node.

[RoRK] “Looks like Barend and yours truly are the only ones around, left, from the, say, “Go”.”
Hmmmm… I think this is some kind of conspiracy. Someone is trying to take over the Cow by removing all of its original leaders and replacing them with robots. I’ve always thought that Dan Ebberts had an unnatural talent for math and code… And Steve Roberts is on-line around the clock 24-7. It’s just not natural…
You know, if you ask me it’s the Cow News Droid that with it’s last upgrade figured: “Hey… I don’t need Ron and Kathlyn anymore… I can handle this alone”. And from then on, the Cow News Droid has been posting in Ron’s name and replacing the original Cow leaders with robots that know everything and are always awake, unlike these weak lame first generation leaders that don’t know everything and sleep all the time.
Yep… I’ve got it all figured out. Now the wait is for my membership to be deleted and my mugshot to be taken off the Cow…

June 6, 2005 at 9:06 pm in reply to: News: Apple to Use Intel Microprocessors Beginning in 2006Plus… the ‘downside’ of having the option between all the different pieces of hardware currently available for Windows is the enormous amount of drivers and possible conflicts. Windows usually does a pretty good job at letting everying play friendly even though my system may not resemble my neighbours’ system in any way.
If Apple should decide to go in this same direction, they’d be opening a pandora’s box that Microsoft has only successfully started to get a grip on with WinXP. I don’t think Apple wants to go there.
Right now, how many graphics boards drivers does Apple need to write?

Ahh…
To use one layer’s luminance for another layer’s transparency, you can use it as a trackmatte.
Create your fractal noise on a separate layer, and place this noise layer on top of the layer you want to dissolve.
Assign the fractal layer as a Luma Track matte for the layer below in the timeline window. (look up track matte in the Help for details).
You can animate the brightness and contrast in you fractal noise layer to go from black to white over time, which creates the transition with the fractal noise in between.
Hope this makes sense.

Actually in this website the menu does a hard dissapear, but after that you see a bit of animated lightning-type stuff.
You could try doing it with fractal noise, but Caustics could be a good bet, too.
