Then again, for years AE has been the tool of choice when compositing in 3D space was needed. ILM, The Orphanage and many other shops have used AE on very big budget shows.
Now that both Digital Fusion and Shake have 3D space, Adobe will have to work hard to keep AE as a serious option for film compositing work, since both Shake and Fusion are more tuned to that kind of work – in regards to their memory management and caching, floating point processing and of course the node based approach.
On the other hand, Combustion has a very cool integration of a layer and node based UI, and V4 looks like a very good deal 🙂
In the end, you just need to make cool stuff. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you ARE the tool that you use.

It really depends on who you are… After Effects is being used for both. It’s pretty much the industry standard in motiongraphics, but it’s also in use at many posthouses for high-end visual effects and compositing.

I’ve never seen (ore heard of) 24fps PAL – if that’s to anyones interest.
As for SECAM: it’s a broadcast standard. But the all the material fed into the SECAM broadcast is PAL. In France all DVD’s are PAL.

When you update a driver, make sure you first uninstall the old one (using the Add/Remove Software function in the Control Panel) before you install the new driver. It sounds like you’re still running the old driver. Best to remove all Decklink drivers now, and then install the latest ones.

Are you looking for film schools? Or more along the direction of motiongraphics and animation.
For Interaction Design and media Ravensbourne (London) is pretty highly regarded. https://www.rave.ac.uk, but they don’t have a film school per se.
The UK’s best film school seems to be https://www.nftsfilm-tv.ac.uk, but it’s a very specialized approach, where you’re trained to be a specialist in a specific field. Whether this suits you is up to you. It’s also hard to get in.
France has a couple of good places but the language might pose a problem. Germany has a couple of good film schools as I’ve heard: https://www.filmakademie.de
Or if you’d prefer Berlin: https://www.hff-potsdam.de (actually Potsdam), and https://www.dffb.de.There’s so much choice out there… it’s impossible to give a comprehensive list. The best film specialized schools don’t always have a more multimedia centered department. So to find a place for both yourself and the girlfriend in the same school may be a bit tricky.
On the other hand, most of these schools are only as good as your personal effort in it. There’s only so much a teacher can teach you. And this is from a teacher.

Well, you must have some sort of preference for specific countries. Is your English good enough to follow courses?
And visual arts is a bit broad of a description, too. Are you looking into fine arts? Painting? Sculpture? Media? Film?

“Digital Compositing for Film and Video”, by Steve Wright is a must have.
I just ordered “Adobe After Effects 6.5 Studio Techniques” by Mark Christiansen which was recommended as a high-end general VFX book, related to After Effects.

Actually, the price is about right for a 6.0 PB to 6.5 PB upgrade.

Are you sure both comps are exactly the same size?
Usually, a comp that’s dragged into another comp comes in pixel for pixel.
So if the new comp is bigger than the one dragged onto it, you’ll have some empty space around it. Check your comp settings.

Are you sure you have the absolute latest versions from the trapcode website?
Trapcode software is not known for crashing or instability, so I’d guess either you need to upgrade to the latest versions, or there’s something else going on with your system.
